Gertrude Booth Fields

On Saturday, April 9, 2005 after a lengthy period of multiple illnesses, God called GERTRUDE DILLIE BOOTH FIELDS home to be with Him. Gertrude was affectionately called by some: Dillie, Gertie, and Dollie, and of course Mom, Momma, Grandma, and "My Wife", and "Sister Fields." She was born on March 28, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Mr. & Mrs. George and Jeanette Parrish. Gertrude was married to the late Clinton Booth and her current husband, George Fields. She worked in various occupations and performed skilled and semi-skilled public service related jobs. Her last employer was the Greater Baltimore Medical Center where she worked for over 15 years and from which she retired. In her younger days (before giving her life to Christ), Gertrude was a socialite and enjoyed having a good time. She was fun loving, out-spoken, flirty, and had lots of streetwise savoir-faire. Gertrude was a giver (she always had something set aside to give to someone). Gertrude was very supportive and loved helping her friends and family. (If one needed something and asked for it, they got it). If someone borrowed money, she loaned it, and always kept a record of it on a piece of "scratch" paper, which she kept in her Duster pocket (until they paid it back). Gertrude was humble and the "Little things in life made her happy. She had many special interests: Gertrude loved to buy fashionable "Faux" jewelry; especially earrings and she took pride in looking glamorous. She loved collecting recipes and cooking special dishes. She loved to socialize, and be the life of a party. Most recently, she enjoyed watching television (especially Court TV and American Idol) and cable programming (Emeril Live, TBN, and BET (on Sunday mornings). Her favorite weekend activity was gathering the family together, cooking for them, and serving their favorite refreshments. But most of all, Gertrude loved studying God's word, listening to good Gospel music, especially the "old songs of her day." Gertrude was a long-standing active member of the Freedom Baptist Church. She supported and participated in church activities and served as a member on several auxiliaries. Gertrude loved the Lord and had a wonderful relationship with Jesus Christ. Gertrude is survived by: her husband, George Fields; three daughters, Gladys Gunn-Muse, Gloria Jean Booth, and Yolanda Danette Simms Nealy; two stepdaughters, Michelle Breedom and Lucille Glee; one sister-in-law, Gladys Walker; one son-in-law, Charles Muse; five grandchildren, Charmaine Simms, Danielle Nealy, Terri Gunn Thomas, Tammy Ranson, Timi Sophia Roberts, and Jeffrey Gunn; two brothers, James and Johnny Parrish. She also had four brothers who preceded her in death: Russell, Leroy, William, and George Parrish; and three sisters, the late Sarah Parrish, Lottie Breedon, and Mary Parrish; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, the "Ladies at the Church", her "Buddies", her neighbors, and other very good friends.
