Gertdell Granter

On Thursday, May 24, 2018, God in His infinite wisdom sent His angel to call His earthly daughter, Gertdell, to enter His realm of eternal peace. GERTDELL GRANTER, daughter of the late Eugene and living mother Gertrude Brunson was born on January 5, 1947 in Manning, South Carolina. She was the oldest of three children. Gertdell was raised in Manning, South Carolina. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Laurel Hill AME Church. She later moved to Baltimore with her parents. She was educated in Baltimore City Public School system. She worked as a domestic worker for 40 years. She loved working and spending time with people. In 1964, she married Alton L. Granter and from that union four children were born; Alton L. Granter, Jr., Shirley Granter, Anthony Granter, and Michelle Faltz. Years later, they divorced and she met the love of her life, Harvey W. Knotts, Jr. (Knotball). They were together until he passed away in August, 2013. She was well liked and respected throughout the community and was affectionately known as “LITTLE BITTS.” She was a mother to so many of her children’s friends. She enjoyed life to the fullest. She traveled the world (France, Hawaii, Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico, California, Las Vegas, New York, Atlantic City, Bethany Beach etc.), and also had her share of adventurous activities (helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, zip lining, and camping). She was also a member of the Road Hogs Motorcycle Club and the Nomad Van Club. Some of her favorite outings were going to the casino, attending the Preakness, taking bus trips, going to shows/movie theaters, and enjoying girls’ night out. On May 24, 2018, after a tragic car accident the Lord called her home. Gertdell was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Brunson and sister, Beverly Singletary. She leaves to cherish her memory; mother, Gertrude Brunson; two sons, Alton L. Granter, Jr., and Anthony Granter; two daughters, Shirley Granter and Michelle Faltz; one daughter-in-law, Anita Granter; one son-in-law, Alphonso Faltz, Sr.; one adopted son, Cowan Wallace; seven grandchildren, Alton L. Granter, III, Michelle N. Granter, Devin Smallwood, Dominic Smallwood, Chaz Faltz, Alphonso Faltz, Jr. and Auriel Granter; nine great- grandchildren; one sister; Barbara Jean Merritt; two aunts, Alice Crawford and Estelle Mack; four nieces, Adrienne Cofield, Tina Singletary, Denise Singletary and Alissa Merritt; two nephews, Freddy and Brian Merritt; best friends Sheila Johnson, Yvonne Barns, and loving neighbors; The Winicki Family, and a host of other relatives and friends. Gertdell will be sorely missed by her family, friends and community but will always be remembered by everyone whose life she touched.
