Geraldine S. Howard

Geraldine Stevenson Howard was the daughter of Alexander and Ella Stevenson. She was born on October 13, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland. Known as "Pee Wee" by many, she grew up at her Aunt Liza's house on West Lexington Street. She attended and was a graduate of Douglass High School in 1959 and completed two years at Coppin State University. In February, 1962, she married James Dennis Howard, Sr. Their first child, Denise, was born in 1962. Their second child, James, was born in 1965. They adopted their third child, Lester, in 1985. Geraldine first worked at the Wilma Eye Clinic for several years. She later became employed at the Maryland Insurance Administration, where she worked for nearly 47 years. Work gave Geraldine an opportunity to show another side of herself. While seeing soft, she had a reputation for being a joker, and often enjoyed making fun of something or someone in the office. She also supported others in joining in on the laughing and jestering, namely partners in crime such as Messrs. Crouse, Forgione, Vinton, McGrath, Graham, Royer, Nayden, Dudley, Bonnie, Betty, Roz, both Kims, Joyce, Fred, Anne, Marie, Dorothy, Bernice, Vaughn, Glenda-My-Frenda, Elaine, Debbie, Marsha, Belinda, and so many others. She would play practical jokes on buzzing visitors into the office, joke about Randy Dennis and the radio show, and about a million other things with a million other people coming and going in and out of their lives, and the ins and outs of the Maryland Insurance Administration. She was also a sweet person and was the rock upon which the family was built. She had an unassuming presence. She was never the center of attention; but she still made her presence felt through her countless acts of kindness that connected people to each other. She was a great cook, well known for spectacular meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas, but her coconut pie and cornbread were legendary. She leaves to mourn a loving husband James Howard (JD); one sister, Cecelia Stevenson; two sons, James Howard and Lester Howard; two grandchildren, Latavia Watson and MaKayla Howard; and many cousins near and far.
