Gerald Lonnie Johnson

Gerald Lonnie Johnson,age 61,gently and peacefully transitioned from this earth on Thursday,May 12,2011 at Inova Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria,Virginia. His strength and determination was exemplified until God in His infinite wisdom called him home. Gerald,the youngest son of the late Cyrus Johnson,Sr. and Harriett B. Johnson,was born May 28,1949 in Amelia,Virginia. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Personal Savior and joined Liberty Baptist Church. He attended public school in Amelia County and graduated from Russell Grove High School ,June 18,1969. While attending high school,he met the love of his life,Dale L. Morris,and they were joined in Holy Matrimony. Upon graduation,he joined the United States Army where he proudly served a tour of duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on May 22,1972. Gerald worked for Philip Morris 30 years and 6 months,at Stockton Street until it shut down and Bells Road,where he retired. In 1985,he joined Morning Star Baptist Church and was a member of the Men's Fellowship Bible Class.served as President of the Male Ushers' Board and worked wherever he was needed in the church until his illness. Gerald served as Past Worship Master of King David Lodge No. 28. as a member,Gerald was dedicated,committed and determined to do a job well done for over 10 years. Gerald favorite pastimes included watching his favorite team,the Greenbay Packers,traveling,spending time with his family,going out to eat,working in the yard, and eating orange popsicles with his grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents,Cyrus and Harriett Johnson and his sister,Virginia Wade. He leaves to cherish many fond memories with his devoted and faithful wife of thirty-two years,Dale M. Johnson;two daughters,Jennifer J. Whitmore and Jennell L. Johnson;two brothers;Cyrus and Isaac Johnson;two sisters;Julia Johnson and Alease Hagwood;mother-in-law;Ethel S. Morris;four sisters-in-law,Mary and Arlene Johnson and Marian and Jacqueline Morris;one grandson;Joey J. Whitmore,one granddaughter;Jalen J. Whitmore;five nephews;Roderick Hagwood,Keith and Kenneth Johnson,Leon Wade and Andre Morris;three nieces;Denise Fuller,Tamula Johnson and Renee Johnson;one son-in-law,Joey J. Whitmore;one Goddaughter;Shade` Strothers and a host of other relatives and friends.
