Gerald Dias

GERALD DIAS son of the late Hyacinth Doig was born on July 11, 1942 in Montego Bay Jamaica. He departed this life on July 13, 2011 after a lengthy illness. He received his education at “Boys School” in Montego Bay and attended “The Salvation Army Church” every Sunday and twice during the week. At the age of fifteen he started traveling as a merchant marine, which was one of his greatest passions that allowed him to visit many countries. Gerald migrated permanently to the United States in 1971. On his many return trips she was home he worked as sailboat tour guide for the “Holiday Inn Hotel” He had many passions which included flirting, swimming, water skiing, dancing and playing the harmonica. He loved his mother dearly and tired to always make her proud and happy. On One of his duties as a tour guide he met Doris, who thought she was looking at a man swimming in a wig and at the same time he looked at her thinking she looked a turtle swimming on the sand; theywere married on August 26, 1971. He was employed at “New England Baptist Hospital” for a period of two years as a Respiratory Technician. Gerald the moved on to “Westinghouse” as an Electronic Technician for twenty-nine years; where he earned many awards and citations for his exemplary work and ingenuity. He was given monetary awards for his ideas that were patented. He enjoyed being home with his family later on in life and frequently visited Jamaica. Gerald was well liked by many; even those who loved to hate him. He enjoyed creating mischief and being the center of attention , but most of all family was his priority. Gerald was diagnosed with Mastic Cancer in August of 2009 and fought till the bitter end . He now joined , his youngest son Clinton , who preceded him in death and leaves to mourn : wife Doris; daughters, Sandralee, Marcia (England), Gerrie, Deloris and Hyacinth; Sons, Bryan, Gerald and Christopher (Jamaica); thirty two(32) grandchildren, five (5) great-children, one son-in-law, three daughters-in-law; maternal sister ; Daphne Dias and brother, Jack Slowley; paternally many sisters, brothers, cousins and host of friends.
