Georgina Dodd

Mary Georgina Elizabeth (nee Jackson) Dodd was born August 30, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland and departed this life June 15, 2004 in Jacksonville, Florida. The beloved daughter of the late Blanche and Theodore A. Jackson, Sr., sister of the late Theodore A. Jackson, Jr., and cousin to the late Viola Hairston.She was educated at St. Pius Elementary School, St. Francis Academy and Douglass High school in Baltimore. As a young adult, Georgina was a member of the Baltimore’s Girls Choir and Drum Majorette of the St. Pius Drum and Bugle Corps. Upon completing her education, she served as a LPN at St. Agnes Hospital and other health care agencies in the greater Baltimore area.Georgina married the late Algaruon E. Edmondson, and together they had three precious children whom she cherished, Loretta, Michael and the late Joseph A. Edmondson. She later met and married McKinley G. Dodd, and together they continued to raise their family.Her ministry during her retirement years was that of keeping close contact with family and friends by way of the telephone. “A communicator of the nurturing and caring kind,” she kept the family abreast of what was happening with one another. Besides her family, she always made time to attend Sunday mass with her daughter Loretta, recite the rosary weekly as well as participate in weekly television masses.Georgina, known to some as Momma, Ganis, George, Jean, Aunt Jean and Dodd, deeply revered her family and was devoted to her friends. She was delighted in hearing and talking about her children, grandchildren and family at large, especially their success. Most recently she was excited to welcome three new members to the family and looked forward in welcoming the birth of a new great-grandchild.In addition the her husband McKinley, Georgina leaves to celebrate her life: a daughter, Loretta O. Goodman (Ret. Sgt. Major Albert L. Goodman); a son, Michael E. Edmondson, Sr. (Sandra); six grandchildren, Chanell J. Anderson (Chief Petty Officer Uries Anderson), Commissioner Tiffany E. Johnson (Petty Officer Arthur Johnson), Lt. Lynette N. Moultrie (Darrin), Aaron J. Edmondson (Rolanda), Darien A. Goodman and Michael E. Edmondson, Jr.; eight great-grandchildren, Marcus, Ashley, Ta’shera, LaShauna, Jalen, Jada, Deontae and Renya; a nephew, Maurice Jackson (Angie); two sisters-in-law, Ora Lee Dodd and Goldie Jackson; cousins, Sister Josita Colbert, S.N.D. de N., Gwendolyn Wright (Douglas), Yates Jackson, Mae Jackson, James Duvall Jr. and a host of other relatives and friends.
