George R. Rodgers

Suddenly on Monday, September 1, 2003, God called our beloved George Rudolph Rodgers Jr., from labor to reward. George was the second child of four born to the late George R. Rodgers Sr. and Helen Carter Rodgers.He was born in Baltimore on March 3, 1928. His early religious training was in the church of his family, Ames Memorial United Methodist Church. He was educated in the Baltimore School System, graduating from Douglass High School in the class of 1948. Wanting to contribute to the parent’s household, he became employed at the Baltimore City Health Department in Vital Statistics, until he was drafted in the United States Army. During his service tour, he spent four years in supplies at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and was honorably discharged. He loved his parents and was thrilled to give them a luxury item in the 1940’s a new twelve inch television. In 1952, he met and married Carolyn Nixon. They became the parents of seven children, two daughters, Wanda and Arnetta died in early infancy. The five remaining siblings are Angela, Denise, Pamela Lamont and Carlos.George was gainfully employed with the Social Security Administration, working in a clerical position until his retirement in 1988. All of his energy was geared toward caring for his wife and family. He loved children and was extremely fond of his nieces and nephews. Horses, sports, dogs, music and TV were some of his passions, and he enjoyed them all to the fullest. He will be sadly missed.Mourning and cherishing his loving memory are: his wife, Carolyn Rodgers; three daughters, Angela Lynch, Denise Rodgers, and Pamela McDermott; two sons, Lamont and Carlos Rodgers; eleven grandchildren, Danielle Mitchell, Carloyn Mitchell, William Harris Jr., Roland Love Jr., Dante Harris, Kedra Lynch, Tierra Lynch, Davon Lynch, Lamonte Rodgers Jr., Dierra Rodgers and Carlos Rodgers Jr.; one great-grandchild, William Harris III; a devoted sister, Bernice Hairston; two sons-in-law, David Lynch and Bryan McDermott; one sister-in-law, Virginia Irvin; a father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hammond; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
