George Ellis Johnson

George Ellis Johnson was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He left this world suddenly on June 20, 2024, at age 53. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, George came out a hero and stayed strong until the end. He was born to the late Gordon and Edmonia Johnson on August 25, 1970. George was blessed to spend his youth with a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins who became and still are to this day lifelong friends. George was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from The Mergenthaler High School In 1988. After Graduating High School, George held many jobs including Jiffy Lube until he began his exhilarating career at the State of Maryland’s Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. He took pride as he was promoted to Sergeant and became an instructor at the academy and a range instructor. Teaching new officers to do the job the correct way was one of his great passions. George retired as a Correctional Lieutenant after 20 years of service. Anyone in his presence knew it was his charisma that got him through such a long career as he was always stopping to talk to everyone. No matter where he went, he always saw someone from the jail, or the neighborhood and always made time to connect with them. During his time in corrections, he was blessed to find the love of his life Tiffany and begin a romance that lasted 19 years. He was so excited to propose to Tiffany. He showed his daughters Brittany and Ellisha the ring with such enthusiasm sharing that he had found the one and that she made him so happy he couldn't live without her. Anyone who knew him will have heard the story how his wedding was the best day ever! Tiffany walked with him through this life with grace, poise, and a truly unconditional love that even in his last moments he made sure to share them with her. Through his marriage to Tiffany, he was also given another daughter Kianna and through Kianna he had the pleasure to experience his two beautiful grandchildren Kaeson and Kimora who filled his days with so much, love, joy, and so many magical moments. His strength and determination to focus on the big picture made him an excellent leader to his family and coworkers. During his successful career he had many hobbies but none he enjoyed more than bowling with the Woodlawn Bowling leagues. He would spend many Saturdays’ working on his spin, finding best deals for new gear, and indulging in a raffle or all the raffles. As a retiree he got to enjoy his life's number one passion which was his family. His favorite times were family reunions, cookouts, an O's game, and any card game night. He would take any chance to make memories even if it meant playing all night long. He was competitive and if he was partnered with his late Brother Boobie or his best friend for life Carlos you knew to watch out for your money. Speaking of things to watch out for he was a great practical joker, and frequently enjoyed prank calls, surprise water gun fights, and he had a nickname for EVERYBODY. George enjoyed a good nap; however, it was always at the wrong time, and he made his presence known by a loud snore in a silent room. George accepted Christ and became a Member of Purpose for Life Outreach Center where he served with the floor team, and he loved his church family and his pastor, Pastor Mo. During this time, some may feel the urge to laugh or smile, just know that it’s George sharing a moment with you and letting you know the most important parts of him are still in your hearts and minds and he will be with us forever. George was proceeded in death by his mother, Edmonia Johnson, his father, Gordon Johnson, and his brother Aaron Johnson, Sr., He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Tiffany Johnson,, daughters, Brittany Johnson, Ellisha Johnson, and Kianna Holloman, Grandchildren, Kaeson Taylor and Kimora Cooper, his sister, Nichole Robinson, brothers, William Hughes, Elbert Hughes, and Carlos Wilburn, Mother in law, Shirley Holloman, Brother in-law, Rodney Holloman (Barbara), and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and friends.
