George H. Young

George Henry Young, Jr. began his life on May 15, 1964 as the second born to Betty and George Henry Young, Sr. “Georgie,” as he was affectionately called by almost all who knew him, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2002. Georgie was a very loving soul, especially to his “family” and special friends. If you met Georgie, you often became “friend” to him. Though Georgie was born and raised in Baltimore City on the West Side, he was no stranger to all parts of the city and he was easily and quickly liked. Georgie grew up with a genuine love for life and people, and he created “bonds for life” with many different people. During Georgie’s Baltimore City Public school experience from grade school through his graduation from Carver Technological High School as a tailor, he received numerous awards for his spelling, creative writing and track abilities. Georgie loved to explore and experience life through people and one of his most favorite people was his “big brother,” Michael, who shared lots of living with him, including mischief and even “modeling” at Harlem Park Junior High School. Following graduation from high school, Georgie married, joined the anrmy and was trained as a supply manager to be stationed in Denver, Colorado. Georgia also achieved expert-marksman status while serving in the Army. Upon his honorable discharge, Georgie held various supply movement positions in the private sector and the U.S. Postal Service, as well as breaking ground as one of the first armed security personnel for Baltimore City public housing facilities Georgie continued his education through several colleges attempting to satisfy his love for leraning and the need to express himself in many ways. Georgie had a passion for his family and enjoyed his youth with his brother and often spoke of the good times they shared together with their cousins, sometimes referred to as their “ other brothers and sister.” George spoke to and/ or visited with his mom daily; they shared a unique connection following his father’s passing. They were like buddies, often spending their time together seeing the latest movies, discussing current affairs, books, music and just enjoying time together.Georgie loved family and enjoyed his times with his two children, Little George and Tia. He often felt he could not do enough or spend enough time with them, but he always tried to show them his love whenever he could. Georgie enjoyed his life through experiencing it; often known as a sharp dresser, he was also known to love dancing, performing as a comedian, singer and especially for his appreciation for the spoken and written words which led him to even contemplate writing a book. Georgie enjoyed the knowledge that he was a Blessed Child of God early in his youth and became renewed in his faith. He frequented different churches, finally calling Morning Star Baptist Church his home church, which was just what he needed, his “family” church. Georgie loved life, the Lord, family and friends with a passion, always ending a conversation or a visit with “ I love you.” Georgie was loved and will always be here for us in spirit through our unforgettable memories of his smile, eyes, his way with words, and especially his love for life and us. Georgie leaves to mourn his passing: two children, his son, George Henry Young III and his daughter, Tia Michelle Nicole Young; his mother, Mrs. Betty Jean Young; one brother, Michael Anthony Young; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Aretha Young; four uncles, five aunts, several grand-aunts, grand-uncles, and a host of cousins, as well as many friends.
