George E. Barry

George Edward (Rocky) Francis Barry, Jr., was born June 18, 1949 to the late George and Geraldine Barry. He departed this life on Tuesday, October 2, 2001.George was baptized, communioned and confirmed at St. Ann’s Catholic Church at an early age. He accepted Christ as his Personal Savior and George depended on Him to see him through. He knew through all of his suffering that God loved him and still made a way for him to get through his painful days, one day at a time. George loved the St. Ann’s family and tried to attend services when ever possible.George was educated in Baltimore City Schools, High School class of 1967 and a graduate of Baltimore City College. He received his B.A. degree from Towson State College in 1971.George worked part-time while attending college. His first full time job after receiving his degree in 1971 was as Branch Manager for Finance America. In 1979 he to make a career change and took his business skills and charismatic personality to work for Universal Carpets, Inc. where he was V.P/General Manager in charge of sales. In 1996 he decided to start his own business, George Barry, Inc. “The Carpet”. George loved sports, family and children. He was always there for family and friends in their time of need. He loved working with the little league sports teams. He was instrumental in the implementation of the Northwood Football League. He served as coach, board member and president for many years. He worked with the students and faculty members of the Calvert Hall College Black Awareness Club.In December 1997 God Blessed George with a grandson, Andre Barry, Jr., He became the center of his joy. George was adopted by many children as a father figure and mentor. Two of those very special individuals are Darnell Singleton and Julia Brown.He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Mae Izetta Barry; one son, Andre Barry; daughter-in-law, Karen Murrell Barry; one grandson, Andre Barry, Jr., three sisters, Barbara Cotton, Geraldine Marie Wilson and Vicki L. Barry; mother-in-law, Addie Mae Foster; sister-in-law, Mattie Cunningham; five brothers-in-laws, Drewary, Colie, Samuel, Conuel and Leonard Foster. Devoted friends, John Pickford, Juliet Brankes and Flora Troutman; godchildren, Darnell Singleton, Julia Brown and a host of aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
