George Leonard Claiborne Sr.

George Leonard Claiborne Sr. is also known by family and friends as Bunny ray or Chief. He was born on February 25, 1940, in Emporia, Va to the loving parents of the late Mr. Harry and Mrs. Verlie Prince- Claiborne. George was the fifth child out of thirteen children, there were nine brothers and four sisters. George attended James Solomon Russell high school where he graduated. George accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age in Emporia, VA at Salem Baptist Church. He continued his fellowship at Second Baptist church in Richmond, VA for over 30 plus years, where he served as an usher. He was a resolute and faithful servant of the LORD, serving in many roles within the church. George was employed as an industrial worker at Dupont manufacturer plant for over twenty years. He held a supervisory role with the construction company Dee Shoring, in this role he provided guidance and great leadership to the employees. During his years of employment at Dee Shoring, he constructed many buildings in Richmond, Virginia. His magnificent work will be admired for years to come and can be seen at the Twin Towers at Riverfront Plaza, Richmond Federal Reserve, and several other buildings locally and nationwide. George was adored and loved by many; he played an essential role as a community servant in the Oak Grove neighborhood. He was well known as the “Father of all fathers”. There was not a child, he wouldn’t help with a flat tire on a bicycle or give assistance to the elderly, neighbors and friends. George was known for working diligently and creating great crafts with his hands and he displayed this in the home repairs he completed for many. George would always say “quitting was not an option” and there was no job too big or small for him. In 1961, George and Virley created a union, they were the proud parents of four children: Angela, George Jr, Tina and Dexter; one additional daughter Annase. George was a loving devoted husband and father. On April 8th, 2024, George was called home to be with his Heavenly father for eternal peace. May his legacy of hard work, love and dedication to family continue on. George was preceded by in death by his parents Mr. Harry and Mrs. Verlie Prince-Claiborne, daughter Angela Claiborne, Brothers: Harold Claiborne, Willie Prince, James Claiborne, Wayne Claiborne; sisters: Edith Robinson, Linda Jordan, Wilma Johnson, and Clara Brown. The legacy of George is continued by two sons, George Jr and Dexter, and two daughters Tina and Annase of Richmond, VA. One sister Audrey, three brothers: Joe, Bobby, Tony, and Buford and grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also friends.
