George N. Cates

GEORGE N. CATES was the beloved son of the Late George Cates and Novella Goins. He was born on May 10, 194 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on Saturday, July 16, 2011 after a lengthy illness. George was employed by the Baltimore City Public School System for thirty years. He retired in 1995. he was excellent employee and received several certificates from the Mayor of Baltimore for his dedicated and outstanding work ethics. George was united in Holy Matrimony to Jeanette Brown on November 28, 1986. they were blessed with twenty-four wonderful years of marriage. George loved the comfort of his home in which he enjoyed the )OLDEES but GOODIES) records and songs. He also enjoyed, emphatically the efforts of working at and on his desktop computer. He was very versatile in his man-cave, in which he spent hours of reading Masonic Literature as well as world Literature. He kept himself abreast with his surrounding. He also enjoyed activities such as chess, playing spades and pinochle and watching sports in (HD). George Nathaniel Cates became a member of the Most Worshipful Hiram Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. Inc. in 1988. he was initiated, Passed and Raised to a degree of Master Mason in Cherry Hill Lodge #2 in 1989. In 1990 Cherry Hill Lodge #2 moved from Cherry Hill to Baltimore and the lodge name changed and became Martin Luther King Jr. Lodge # 31. Bro. Cates became Worshipful Master of M.L.K. JR. #31 in 1994. He served as (Master) for fifteen years. During those fifteen years he was also (appointed) as The Grand Lecturer of the Masonic School of Instruction, where he served from 2000 to 2011. In 1992, Bro. Cates became Companion Cates and was a member of Mt. Moriah Chapter #2 Royal Arch Mason. Precious memories now remain wit those who loved him and the many lives he touched. Three children preceded him in death, Monica, Warren and stepson Kevin and two brothers, Albert (shorty) and Ricardo (Ricky). He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted and loving wife, Jeanette Cates, two sons, Derick and Devlon; stepdaughter, sheila; three sisters, Loretta, Gloria and Diana; brother, Ronald; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; six sister-in-law, four brother-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends.
