George Boynes

GEORGE BOYNES entered into this world on April 1, 1950 to Gladys Boynes in Harlem, New York. He departed this life on Friday, January 8, 2010 at 10:10 p.m. With his loving daughters by his beside.George received his education in the New York Public School System. He joined the Marine Corps where he served a combat tour in Vietnam 1967-1970. He received several medals and badges while serving.Upon leaving the Marine Corps he found his soul mate and started a family with his wife Perrice Vernice Boynes who preceded him in death. Of that union they had two beautiful daughters Tahesha and Keshia. He worked many years as a cook at Bertha's Mussels in Fells Point. He was known to family and friends as “Bo” with a crazy sense of humor and a love for movies. He pursued his passion and attended a culinary institute to became a chef. He worked as a chef for thirteen faithful years at the Maryland Veterans' Center for Education and Training also known as MCVET. It was there that he found peace and gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.While at MCVET he also joined the choir as a bass singer. Through his cherished choir, named the Message of Hope Choir, he met a host of new friends who were dear to him. He devoted time and traveled to different churches, spending the gospel through song, Veteran Services and other organizations with the choir. The invitation to the White House in 1999 to sing with choir was most memorable to George. He had a love for MCVET's agency and the choir.George was loved by everybody. He was a team leader, hard worker, loyal and dependable. He gave courage and wisdom where it was needed and strength in time of trouble.George leaves to cherish his memory: his two loving daughters, Tahesha Boynes of Baltimore and keshia Boynes of Harlem, N.Y.; a brother, Robert Phillips of Oklahoma; three sisters, Marcella Fields of Pennsylvania, Rosalie Brooks of Baltimore and Mary Brown of California; four grandchildren, Jarrod Boynes, Da'Mon Cottman, Tahlia Cottman and Isabelle Velez; longtime friend, Gwendolyn Beard; ex-wife, Janice Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, loving family and friends.He was preceded by his loving brothers Augustus Phillips and Emmanuel Boyd.
