Genova Joe Barber

GENOVA BARBER, son of the late Willie Mae Poole and Willie Eli Barber, was born on March 1, 1963 in Baltimore, Maryland. He suddenly departed his earthly life on Saturday, July 19, 2008 after a brief illness. Genova received his education from the Baltimore City Public School System. Genova (a.k.a. Joe) would always put a smile on your face, as well as a smile in your heart. Joe had a famous saying “I’ll holla at ya, when I smile at ya.” He had a strong passion for his family, telling amazing stories and enjoying life. Joe took great pride in his work. Throughout his adult life, Joe worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital, March’s Funeral Home, as well as his brother’s business, Eli Barber Bus Transportation. Joe was a very dedicated, hard-worked and diligent man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him. This past Easter, Joe gave his life over to Christ at the Sharon Baptist Church. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to assist others. It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to Genova. Our time with him was too short. He leaves to cherish his memory: his father, Willie Eli Barber; son, Corey Eli Barber; nine brothers, Eli Barber, Daryl Barber, Willie Barber, John Barber, Roy Barber, Tyrone Barber, Clarence Barber, Clarence Porter and Douglas Porter; five sisters, Helen Poole, Gloria A. Watson (GA), Debra Poole, Bernadine Poole and Ida Mae Jackson; three grandchildren, Kory’e Barber, Kaniah Barber and Corey Eli Barber Jr; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends, especially Bren-Bren, a loving and devoted friend.They say there is a reason they say that time will heal,But neither time nor reason will change the way we feel;For no one knows the heartache that lies behind our smiles,No one knows how many times we have broken down and cried.We want to tell you something so there won’t be any doubt,You’re so wonderful to think of but so hard to be without.We cannot bring the old days back, when we were all together,The family chain is broken now, but memories live forever.
