Garnett Bagley Carey Jr

Garnett B. Carey, Jr. was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 1, 1958 to Garnett B. Carey and Jane G. Carey. He was the eldest of three children from their union. His journey on earth has ended, but his eternal life has just begun, on Saturday, April 8, 2017. At birth, Garnett was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Throughout Garnett’s life, he met challenges head on and he overcame insurmountable odds and continued to thrive physically, mentally and spiritually. Garnett, affectionally called Wennie, Bob/Wee Bob/Sway Bob, Main Man and a host of other nicknames that were given to him, was a native of Richmond where he lived his entire life. Garnett received his certificate of completion from Amelia Street School on May 29, 1979. After his completion of requirements, he began working with Goodwill Services. Garnett was a committed and faithful worker who was honored with a performance award after more than 17 years of service. He continued to participate in community based service programs. Garnett’s love of the Lord started at an early age. He was an honorary deacon/worshipper at several of his favorite places of worship. Garnett never hesitated to give God praise. He would pull up his imaginary mic, start to “GO IN” and would let the praise begin. Garnett loved his family, and in return, he was LOVED by his family unconditionally. The last 25 years of Garnett’s life have been seamless due to the devoted care of his sister Penny and her husband Jeff, whom Garnett lived with and received exceptional primary care. Penny and Jeff also received dedicated assistance from several devoted individuals. Mark Christopher Johnson; Patricia Thomas, and Deborah Miller, stepped in to give Penny and Jeff much needed and deserved care breaks. Garnett is survived by his loving and devoted mom, Jane G. Carey, and father, Garnett B. Carey Sr. (Veronica); seven siblings, Penny Carey Miller (Jeff who was a brother, and a powerful friend), Kathy J. Carey, Avear Carey, Apear Carey Moise (Eli), Charmaine Klausner (Jeff), Curtis Lewis (Mercedes) and Cedric Lewis (Althea); a devoted sister in-law, Patricia Thomas; one nephew, John H. Whitley; a host of nieces, as well as other aunts, uncles and cousins. May the love of God be with him eternally!
