Furman Thompson Jr.

The Spiritual Arrival: FURMAN THOMPSON JR. was born July 30, 1939 in Monroe, North Carolina. He was the first of (9) nine children born to the late Furman Thompson Sr. and Otis Katherine Hood Thompson-Johnson. Educational Foundation: Furman Jr. moved to Baltimore, Maryland with his mother at the age of (3) three years old. He was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System with Paul Laurence Dunbar Community High School being his choice of educational excellence. Lifetime Union: Furman courted and married the love of his life Mary Lenore Moore-Thompson in 1966. They shared 50 years of marriage up to his departing this life to be with the Lord. Be Fruitful: Furman and Mary were blessed with two sons, the late Furmel Phillippe Thompson Sr. and David Anthony Thompson Sr. Furman also was a dedicated father to his son Derrick Cosby. The love and labor that he put forth in being a provider, coach and a Godly vessel used to raise (3) men as men by a man of God was completed in his promised life. The Faith: Furman Jr. was raised in the Baptist Faith, but amazingly he was a spirited Child of God who journeyed out in search of wisdom, knowledge and understanding by having a mission, a desire to fellowship, praise and study with different people from different walks of faith, which was an evangelistic call for the TRUTH. Labor and Delivery: Anyone that knew Furman Jr. knew a man that labored and delivered in an effort to provide for his family starting from a very young age. As a young teenager, Furman took on odd jobs to put food on the table for his family. To his credit a shoe re-conditioner, pharmaceutical delivery man, restaurant owner of family businesses, automotive mechanic and Furman spent most of his working career working as a paint machine operator. Furman was blessed with retirement after 30+ years of service with Valspar Paint Corporation. Desires of the Heart: Furman had a few good things that he enjoyed in his promised life. Furman took pride in having the cleanest, smoothest running cars that would set tires on the streets of Baltimore City. He loved playing sports in his youth with baseball being his favorite, but having a passion for the sport of boxing both inside and outside of the ring. He was affectionately known as “Junior” by family and friends and it wasn’t much Junior couldn’t fix or build with his hands. One of the finest qualities about Furman Thompson Jr. was his desire and taste for fashion. He always was a well-dressed man tailored from head to toe. You could find Furman enjoying a concert or a movie at the Famous Royal Theatre on Pennsylvania Avenue or gracing the dance floor at a cabaret. Ascending: He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Mary L. Thompson; (4) four sons, the late Furmel P. Thompson, Sr., Derrick D. Cosby, David A. Thompson, Sr., the late Lamell O. Ausby; daughter-in-law, Nikomus Thompson; daughter of love, Lisa Evans; mother-in-law, Mrs. Maletha Moore; daughters, Esther Causion, Shana Bell; (8) eight siblings, James Thompson Sr., the late Leonard Thompson, Jerome Johnson Sr., Alfred Johnson Sr., Levota Johnson, Gail Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Darlene Johnson-Cooper; (2) two brothers-in-law, (8) eight sisters-in-law; (15) fifteen grandchildren, Mai-Angela Lambert, David A. Thompson Jr., Furmel P. Thompson, Jr., Shantel Bell, Shanae K. Cosby, Brittany Faison, Javon Singleton, Mia Barnes, DaSharnte A. Thompson, Don Causion, Diontre Barnes, D’Angelo A. Thompson, Kairae Wilson, Kaylarae Wilson, Nicquel L. Hicks; (4) four great-grandchildren, Kerrin Tucker, Inaya Cosby, Aiden Cosby and Lawson Ausby; (3) uncles of New York City Robert, Marvin and Charles Hood; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews other relatives and friends including a very special friend, Will Stanton.
