Fulton G. Washington

Fulton G. Washington, Jr., son of the late Fulton G. Washington, Sr., and Mattie Bell Washington, was the youngest and the last surviving of ten children. He was born on January 11, 1918 in Harvard, Kentucky. He departed this life after a lengthy illness while in the care of his niece Daun “Candi” Ward. He received his education in Charleston, West Virginia, along with his older brother Sam who was also his best friend. Upon completion of his education, Fulton’s parents wanted him to become a minister, so he studied the bible and took classes. Fulton always had a passive, loving way. He was a gentle giant. He was employed at Montgomery Ward and Company as a truck driver. He met the love of his life, Rose Miller, and they married in 1942. Through this union there were no children. They traveled and the both enjoyed the finer things in life. As a result of this union, there was a lifetime bond that Fulton had with his mother-in-law, Clara Brent. He helped take care of her until her death in 1993. His wife, Rose passed away forty years ago. Fulton was drafted into the U.S Army where he served in World War II. He served as a duty soldier and truck driver a with the 3528thQuartermaster Truck Company in Kyoto, Japan and was also a squad leaderwho served under General McArthur and General Patton. He retired from Ft. Meade. Fulton was a kind-hearted, peaceful man, devoted to family and friends. He was a dearly loved man. He enjoyed family, friends, playing the lottery, watching westerns, throwing horseshoes and listening to blues music. He leaves to mourn: his two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Clara Ward and Mrs. Catherine Miller of Baltimore, Maryland; one brother-in-law, Mr. Bland Ward of Petersburg, Virginia; niece, Daun Candice Ward and her daughter Lauren A.Ward; his nieces, JoAnn Ward, Michele Mc Donald, Pamela Cason and Gina Eater; his nephews, Lewis Ward and Calvin Alston; his friends, Maurice “Little Brother” McMillian, Latrenya Hines and Debra Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends. Uncle Fulton wanted it to be said, “Thanks very much, that was beautiful what you did for me. And so long! Thanks for coming by to see me or calling me, thanks for everything, and so long!”
