Freeman Pitts

Freeman Pitts, son of Annie Mae Pitts Threatt and the late James M. Threatt, was born on October 7, 1937 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He departed this life on March 8, 2004 after and unexpected illness.He received his primary education in Roanoke Rapids and completed his studies through the Baltimore City Public School System. At the age of seventeen, he joined the United States Navy, served for eleven years and received an honorable discharge in 1964.Freeman developed his natural talent and established a career as a Master Carpenter at which time he became a full-time employee of McCormick Properties, Inc. After twenty-three years of service, he retired as superintendent. He continued his passion for construction and accepted a position with Tech Contracting until his retirement on July 31, 2003. Freeman accepted Christ at an early age, joining Linden Hall Baptist ChurchHe worshipped faithfully with his wife at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church for many years until the time of his death.While serving in the military, he met his life long soul mate and best friend, Loretha Ballou, married in 1958 and out of this union six children were born.Freeman, an extremely hardworking dedicated family man, was a leader at heart. He was very proud of his family and made numerous sacrifices. He supported their endeavors and accomplishments and never missed an opportunity to brag about them.He is survived by: his loving wife of forty-five years, Loretha B. Pitts; five children, Sherlyn Pitts, Derald Pitts, Angelette Bull, Freeman Pitts II and Ben Pitts (one son preceded him in death, Curtis Pitts); six granddaughters, Shawnta, Sheena, Shanita, Trenae, Cantisse and LaNeesha; one grandson, Devin; his mother, Annie M. Threatt; one sister, Melissa Peterson; four nephews, Brian, Jody, Sam and Kenny; one niece, Tricia; aunts and uncles, Lizzie Dowden, Mamie Jones, Russell, Clem, Jeff, Dorothy, Lacy, Nello, Minnie, Queen, Josie, William and Magrady; son-in-law, Bravett Bull; five brothers-in-law, Leroy Ballou of Sulphur, La., Benjamin Ballou, Jr. of DeQuincy, La., Wilson Ballou of Elton, La., Laymon Toussaint of Elton, La., Bobby Peterson of Randallstown; six sisters-in-law, Willie M. Spikes and Lorena McMahon of Newton, TX., Mary N. Toussaint of Elton, La., Emily Ballou of Elton, La., Mary Jane Ballou of DeQuincy, La. And Priscilla Mills of Brooklyn, N.Y.; cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
