Fred Hanna

God almighty in His providence called from labors on earth to an everlasting home, the soul of Fred Hanna Jr. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 after an extended illness in his home.Fred Hanna Jr. was born in Lake City, South Carolina on May 19, 1930 to the late Fred Hanna Sr. and Pearl (Graham-Hanna) Brown. He was preceded in death by a son, Fred Hanna III. Fred was raised in a strong Christian family and early on joined Nettie's Temple Holiness in Lake City. He later joined The Supreme Council of the House of Jacob. This is what sustained him during his illness.A leader of men, Fred was a long time member and an A.A. Sponsor in the Fellowship of Twelve Steps. He was blessed to celebrate forty-four years of sobriety in June. Fred had a wicked sense of humor, and was delight to be around. If you asked him how he was, he would always respond, “Simply Marvelous.”After coming to Baltimore he completed his GED from Dundalk Community College. He worked in the Baltimore Public System after obtaining a stationary engineering license. He later became an Addiction Counselor, working at The Johns Hopkins Hospital for twenty-four years years until his retirement in August, 1994.Fred was very proud of his military service. He attended engineer school at Murnau, Germany and served in Korea. He was discharged after after obtaining the rank of sergeant.He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Alfreda of thirty-four years. Two grandchildren, Jain Cox and Donte Hanna, two great-grandchildren Diante Hanna and Maurice (Pee-Wee) Hanna. Four devoted God-children, Rose L. Adams of Rahway, N.J.; Marcus I. White of Blackwoods, N.J., and Keturah C. Johnson and Dana B. Cooper. A step brother, Rev Matthews Brown & step sister, Rosa Brown of Lake City, SC. A mother-n-law, Mildred Johnson. Three brother-in-laws, Robert, Joshua (Odyssey) and Alex Johnson, three sister-in-laws, Roberta Cooper, Monica Biddle, and Fairrillia White of Westampton, N.J. Two uncles, Howard Meyers Graham (Johnny Lee) of Lake City, S.C. and Phillip Hanna of Baltimore. One aunt, Barzella McElveen. One sister-cousin Wyndella McCrae. Ten nieces, nine nephews, twelve great-nieces, seven great-nephews and one great great niece; and a host of cousins and other relatives. Four special friends, Tovinia Johnson, Constance Lewis, Norvin Howard and Mark Cannon; he shall live forever.
