Frankie T. Pettis

Frankie Thomas Pettis was born June 24, 1943 and was called to be with Eternal Father in Heaven on October 8, 2020. Frankie was born in Evergreen, Alabama, the daughter of the late Benjamin James Thomas and Azelia Thomas. She had nine siblings: sisters Mary, Evelyn, Gladys, and Clara; brothers: James, Alonzo “Jimmy”, Richard , Hartence and Benjamin. Frankie had a happy childhood growing up in the south, where she was raised by aunt, Mary Lee. She attended public schools and was a member of St. John's Baptist in her hometown of Evergreen, Alabama. She continued her education at Alabama State University in Montgomery. In 1964 Frankie met George Leroy Pettis, a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force., and they were married after a brief courtship. From their union, two precious children were born, George, Jr. and Erica. Frankie was a caring and protective mother and a wonderful homeworker. For a short time she worked at Bell Atlantic and later become a child caregiver, assisting single working mothers she loved to bake and cook simple, yet delicious Southern meals and often catered dinner parties for friends . She looked forward to relaxing and spending time with family Crewe, Virginia. Frankie was a compassionate and kind soul. She understood the importance of being a good listener and offered advice and words of wisdom and encouragement to family and friends. She always had numerous anecdotes to share and loved entertaining guests in her home, where she made everyone feel welcome. Frankie enjoyed celebrating the holidays, and New Year's was one of her favorites, where many of her friends and relatives gathered in her home to bring in the New Year. She enjoyed all genres of music with Justin Timber lake's “Suit and Tie” and Yolanda Adams, “Open My Heart” two of her favorites. She overcame many obstacles – the deaths of her husband, son and grandson, in just few short years apart. She was a strong women who lived her life to the fullest through her deep faith, and would always say, “God is good”. Frankie was preceded in death by her husband, George, Sr. her son, George, Jr. and her grandson, Eric Cook. She leaves to mourn her passing from this earthly life and to cherish their memories, her devoted daughter, Erica Pettis-Aparentado (Rico); two grandsons Ryan Pettis (Taleetha) and Jaelen Bryant; (Bernadine) of Las Vegas; one sister-in-law, Marion Pettis; one brother-in-law, Lawrence Pettis (Nellie) ; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends.
