Frances B Proctor

On Thursday, August 28, 2015, at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, Frances Beatrice (Bea) Proctor, departed this life. Bea was born February 23, 1937, in La Plata, Maryland, to the late Martha L. (Smoot) Proctor and Louis Proctor. Educated in the Charles County Public School system, she graduated from Bel Alton High School, Bel Alton, Maryland. Shortly after graduating high school, Bea moved to Baltimore. She continued her education at Baltimore City Community College. For 36 years Bea was employed as a librarian at Enoch Pratt Library eventually achieving the rank of supervisor. She retired from City government on July 1, 2004. Bea enjoyed a very special relationship with her only child, her daughter Vonda. She felt Vonda was her sun. They shopped, vacationed, ate out and lived together. The highlight of their vacations was a surprise luxury cruise Vonda provided for her retirement. She had one grandson, Brandon, who was more like a son to her than a grandson. As much as Vonda was her sun, Brandon was her moon. As much as she loved and adored him, he loved and adored her more. He chauffeured her around, taking her any place she wanted to go. Just the mention of his name would bring a huge smile to her face. Keeping with the celestial theme, she also had one great grandchild, her great granddaughter, Ny-Laya, who was the star in her life. Bea was a very religious, vibrant, happy, fun-loving, family-oriented person. She was the absolute life of our party. She loved to make you laugh, even if it was at her expense. She enjoyed eating out and particularly liked seafood, especially hard shell crabs and shrimp. She was a true shopper and a fashionista. Red was her favorite color. To know her is to know her headbands, as she wore them to match all of her outfits. Bea loved dancing and listening to oldies but goodies. As the oldest remaining sister, she was even known to convince her sisters to sing karaoke on the annual sisters’ trips. Watching baseball, especially the Baltimore Orioles and her favorite team, the New York Yankees, was her television guilty pleasure. She was an avid reader of all types of books. She was a devout catholic and received the sacraments of baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirmation at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in La Plata, Maryland. She attended other Baltimore area catholic churches until she became a member at St. William of York. At St. William’s she became an Eucharistic Minister and enjoyed serving on Sundays. Bea leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving daughter, Vonda Proctor; her grandson, Brandon Evans; her great granddaughter, Ny-Laya Evans; four sisters, Dorothy E. Bush, Barbara I. Wheeler (Edward), Jean M. Diggs (Harold) and Joyce T. Proctor; two brothers, James T. Proctor (Sandra) and Charles D. Proctor (Wanda); and her sister-in-law, Mildred Proctor; Kyron Smith, who was like a son and Patrice Clark, who was like a daughter; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Martha Proctor; three sisters, Mary L. Holley, Annie E. Stewart and Catherine C. Proctor; two brothers, Robert L. and John L. Proctor; three brothers-in-law; Harold Holley, James A. Stewart, Sr. and Charles H. Bush, Jr. Bea was deeply loved by her entire family. She will be sorely missed.
