Frances B. Monroe

FRANCES BLACKWELL MONROE, daughter of the late John and Mary Blackwell, born May 12, 1919, departed this life on August 4, 2015 at Season's Hospice in North West Hospital after a brief illness. Frances was educated in the Baltimore City School System until the age of 12, when she moved to Virginia and was raised by her grandmother Nancy Randall, and her Aunt Louise Conway (Aunt Lou). She graduated from Russell Grove High School in Virginia. After graduation she returned to Baltimore where she resided with her sister Lillian Goodie and brother-in-law Chester Goodie at 1927 Aisquith Street. On December 4, 1974 she married out of this union came love, friendship and companionship. For many years she was employed as a housekeeper for the Fredrick P. Winner , Ltd. Family. Frances gave her life to the lord in 1938 at the Leadenhall Baptist Church. There she served for many years as the secretary of the W.A.R.E. Life line ministry. She remained a faithful member until her death. She loved her Leadenhall family and looked forward to her church family coming to visit for prayer and serve communion. When she was no longer physically able to attend church services, she enjoyed watching several different television ministries. One of her favorite pastimes was reading her bible and spending time with her lord. Frances, the family matriach was very family oriented. She was the family historian who had a wealth of information about the family, birthdays, deaths, births, marriages, etc. You could always look forward to receiving a card from her every holiday, birthday, anniversary or just to say thinking of you. She was our “hallmark Honey”. She was a huge baseball fan, the Baltimore Orioles was her favorite team and she enjoyed watching the games and drinking her favorite drink, Pepsi. She was also was an excellent cook. You could always go to her house for a home cooked meal. Chitterlings, pig feet, potato salad, collard greens and a slice of homemade pound cake. You could smell the food as soon as you got to the gate. She would often call and say come on over and bring a pot and she would fill it with whatever delicious creation she cooked that day. Those who grieve but yet rejoice in her transformation included her extended family devoted niece and caregiver, Wanda L. Kimball; nephews Rodney D. Kimball; Charles L. Kimball, Jr.; devoted cousins and caregivers Benita Hill and Doreen (JoNie) Omisore; special cousins Anita Harris; Dorethea Johnson; lifetime friends Ida Trogdon, Shirley Roles; her Leadenhall Baptist Church Family and a host of relatives and friends.
