Frances Gray Hayes

On January 12, 2017 the Lord picked from his lovely garden our loved one, Frances Champion Gray Hayes at Elizabeth Crump Manor Nursing Facility. She was born one of seven children on July 30, 1942 to the late Earnest Champion and Mattie Champion Brice. She was preceded in death by her 3 brothers. Frances excepted Christ at a very young age and was baptized at the Cedar Street Church of God. She attended Richmond Public Schools and later received her GED. She was employed at Terraces Hill Nursing Home, Freeman Marks and several other places, inclµding cleaning offices in the evenings. She was known for being a very hard worker and she could clean anything. Most importantly she was known for being a fashionista. She could always find the sharpest shoes and pocketbooks to match, and she wore the coolest eye glasses. Marking her daughter Gwen, who is a shoe and pocketbook lover too. Nana as she was called by most, rolled her eyes at Gwen which ment she loved her, then they would laugh. Cherri mastered Nana's cooking, and she would cook for you anything you wanted and she plundered just like her too. Sheron picked up on Nana's style of dressing and Nana was the only one that could get away with calling Sheron "Wink". Baby Jay got the kissing your face down pat and would always call her Nana's Kitchen. Last but not least, John just got all she had left because he got to do whatever he wanted to do in the name of love, and she gave him anything he asked for. Frances married the late Leroy Gray Sr. and from this Union was born two daughters. She is survived by her two daughters, Gwendolyn Gray Mills (Harvey) and Cherrie Gray Day (Kenny) and later adopted one son, John Ellis Jr. Also surviving, one granddaughter, Sheron Gray Morris (Alex); two grandsons, Gary Johnson Jr. and Gerry Irving Jr.; two sisters, Marie Champion and Isabell Rogers; a host of nieces and nephews; one Goddaughter, Tequila Leadbetter all of Richmond, VA and one devoted friend, Ms.Gladys West. Also thanking Elizabeth Crump Manor Nursing Facility, the Bon Secours Hospice, the Podiatry Center and the First Union Baptist Church Family.
