Frances Ledora Allen

Frances Ledora Allen, affectionately, called “Lee”, was the daughter of the late Hubert and Bertha Evans. She was born on June 20, 1933 in Durham, NC. Lee peacefully answered her call to God on Sunday, May 22, 2022, after a lengthy illness at home. Lee was educated in the Durham, North Carolina School System. She accepted Jesus Christ and became a member of the St. Paul Community Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD. In September 1968, she was united in love and marriage to the late, Lloyd George “Gov” Allen. From this union of love, together they blended their family of 14 kids. Lee was a virtuous woman whose love and dedication to her family was displayed in everyone and everything she touched. She gave all of herself, her generous heart and love to each of her kids and grandkids until the day God called her home. She loved having family/friends over for good times/entertaining. In 1969, Lee and the Late Lloyd George “Gov” Allen, caught the entrepreneur bug. Together they became husband and wife business owners of the lounge called, Club Aldora. Affectionately, sometimes called Aldora’s - the business name evolved from putting their names Allen and Ledora together. Good times and many celebrations was had by all who frequented the well-known East Baltimore establishment until it’s final closing in 1996. Lee also worked as a Bus Driver for Veolia Transportation from 1987 until she retired in 2009. She received many accolades for her outstanding work performance and dedication to the company over her 22 years of employment. Lee lived a good life. She was a praying, God-fearing woman always surrounded by love. She loved all of her children and would do anything for them and if she couldn’t - she would find a way to make it happen. She was a confidant, teacher, banker, life-coach, friend and Mom to many. She opened her heart and her home selflessly to many and would feed you at the blink of an eye. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and going on bus trips. She was a great storyteller about the family “good ole days” of 25th street, Club Aldora and growing up in North Carolina. Grandma Lee, as she was called, loved doting on her grandkids and great-grand kids. She had a loving, special bond with each of them. Her heart filled with love and pride instantly when they were around. Her infectious smile and face would light up with joy every time she saw them, had a visit, talked or FaceTime over the phone. She was never too busy for a hug, or conversation. She adored them and made sure they knew her love for each one was the greatest gift of unconditional love ever. Lee had a great bond with her lifetime girlfriends of 50+ years. They called themselves the “Golden Girls”. They enjoyed having get-togethers, family reunions and on bus trips. Lee had a great loving relationship with her only living brother, George Evans. She enjoyed their conversations and was tickled pink when he would end their call saying, Okay . . . I was just thinking about you, I’m playing Checkers now I’ll talk to you later. Loved ones who preceded her in death: her husband, Lloyd George Allen; three sons: Ricardo Atkins, Kim and Robert Allen; two daughters: Delores Lovelace, and Phyllis Allen; one grandchild: Sterling Peacock; one brother: Morris Evans and a devoted friend Roland Mack. Lee’s love and spirit lives on through her family: five daughters: Brenda Bowles (PA), Cynthia Peacock (NC), Karen Atkins, Charmaine Williams and Gloria Allen of MD; four sons: Kevin, Michael, Andre and Steve of MD. Twenty-nine grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren; one brother: George Evans (NC); three daughters-in-laws, Philomen Allen (Kevin), Linda Allen (Mike) and Valeria Allen (Steve); nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
