Floyd Oliver

I know it seems as if we are a million miles apart, But I am right here with you I live deep within your heart. Floyd Oliver, 83, of Richmond, formally of Hopewell, Virginia, went home to glory on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Our beloved was born August 21, 1931 to the late Annie and Gilliam Oliver. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Clarence and Gale Oliver. He attended Carter G. Woodson High School located in Hopewell, Virginia. Floyd was formerly employed by a local fish market and ice plant. He later moved to Richmond where he worked for the Ford Motor Company and retired as a mechanic. He also worked as an attendant for Texaco Gas Station and later as a long-distance truck driver. He will be dearly missed. Floyd, a loving brother, full of humor was willing to use his auto-motive training to help others with their vehicles. He loved his mother. After her passing, he spent more of his time reflecting on God’s love. He cherished the teachings of his mother. Floyd often quoted her, “Mama always said…we should stick together.” He was spiritually touched by the Lord. He had a passion for listening to Christian music, watching the Lawrence Welk Show, cooking and bowling. His favorite NFL team was the Green Bay Packers. Floyd was an outstanding example of a very giving human being. He put the needs of others before himself. He cared deeply for his loved ones. Floyd was the backbone, strength, and light of his family. He was kind, loving, caring, compassionate and had a glorious smile. He leaves to cherish his memories four loving sisters, Grace Lynche and Mary Lee both of Baltimore, Maryland; Esther Sessoms (Ben) of South Chesterfield, VA and Catherine Goodwyn (Floyd) of Hopewell, VA; one caring brother, Jacob Oliver (Mary) of Hopewell, VA; affectionate aunt and uncle, Roberta Bolling and Richard Bell both of Blackstone, VA; devoted sister-in-law, Evelyn B. Oliver of Petersburg, VA; loyal nieces, Germaine D. Oliver of Petersburg, VA and Valerie Ann Sessoms of South Chesterfield, VA. He was embraced by ten nephews, two devoted, Benjamin Sessoms, Jr. of South Chesterfield and Clarence A. Oliver of Pocono, PA and 9 nieces, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
