Florence Diana Wickham

Florence Diana Wood Wickham was born to André Riguald and Florence Taylor Wood in Richmond, Virginia on November 12, 1934. She was the fifth child, pre-deceased by her sisters,Constance Wood Evans,Ida Justine James and Joan Maxine Dungee and one brother Andrew Aristotle Wood. “Dinah”, as she was fondly referred to, accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She became a member of Fourth Baptist Church and later a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church.As a beautiful young woman, Dinah was united in marriage to Nathaniel John Wickham, III on May 28, 1955. From this union they nurtured and reared four children. She was a most loyal and self-sacrificing wife and mother. Dinah’s giving nature was attributed to her faith and trust in her Heavenly Father. Dinah attended George Mason Elementary School and Maggie L. Walker High School. Her primary focus was the care for her family. She helped to supplement the family’s needs by working at the Medical College of Virginia, where she retired in 1987. Long before there was a Food Network, Dinah was the culinary expert of the family. Cooking was her passion, where she put her heart and soul into the meals that would ultimately nourish her family physically and emotionally. She believed in cooking from scratch,nothing from a box or can. There was always room at her table for anyone whom happened to stop by, and if nothing was prepared,she would go into her kitchen and make a spread. This constant commitment to loved-ones left a legacy of stability and strength for her family to be successful. Momma was the true essence of the term “self-sacrificing”. Her entire life was dedicated to fulfilling her commitment of being a capable wife and confidant to her husband. For her children, Momma was the backbone, centerpiece, and nurturer. She was also a consummate and trusted sounding board for her sisters, nieces and nephews. Loving memories of Dinah will be cherished by her husband, Nathaniel John Wickham, III; three sons,Nathaniel John Wickham,IV(Yvonne); André Reguald Wickham (Daphne) and Byron Arthur Wickham (Starlita);one daughter, Natalie Camille Wickham Lambert (Ernest);eleven grandchildren, Brandon, Dabney, Brian, Chelsea, Nathaniel V, Nathan V,Taylor, Eric, Austin, Kennedi and Diana Rose; two sisters, Ann Marie Wood Mallory (Eugene), Eleanor Marva Wood Brown (Herman); two brothers- in-law, Landon H. Wickham (Celia) and Roger F. Wickham; two devoted nieces, Joslyn B. Ford and Joyce F. Johnson; special nieces,Dr.June P. Robinson,Tondra Wilkerson, Kim Taylor and Debbie Cousins; special nephews, Mark W. Mallory, Andrew Booker and Anthony Booker; a host of other relatives and friends.
