Fannie Brown

Fannie M. Brown, affectionately known as “Candy,” was born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late James Brown, Sr. and Victoria Brown on May 23, 1949. Ms. Brown answered the call to be with her heavenly Father on May 24, 2017 after a lengthy illness. She matriculated through Baltimore City Public Schools earning her high school diploma from the honorable Western High School. Being an advocate of education, she entered Towson University to pursue a degree in Accounting. Her passion for Accounting led to a career with The Baltimore City Police Department where she served for many years and retired in 2002. At the tender age of twenty-five years old she met Milton Lawrence, Sr., the man who would share in one of the most precious moments of her life. This union brought into the world their two beautiful children, Ayanna and Milton Lawrence, Jr. Later in life Ms. Brown met James Brown, the man who would share in creating her third and final heartbeat, Yahnena Brown. Because God knew that she had a huge heart and much more love to give, He blessed her with becoming a grandmother of seven wonderful grandchildren: Ausjwane’, Emmanuel, Coreyetta, Jahmel, Amore’, James, Jr. and Jasmin. Ms. Brown’s love for family was so great that she extended herself to the Patterson Park community, which she called her extended family. She was a pillar in her community and everyone knew Ms. Brown as a leader and the lady who would “get it done!” She found great joy in facilitating annual block parties and other community events that would create a positive atmosphere, which would later become her legacy to all that knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Shirley, Pansy, Daisy, and Helen; and one brother, James Brown, Jr. She leaves to forever cherish her memory: three children, Ayanna Lawrence, Milton Lawrence, Jr., and Yahnena Brown; seven grandchildren, Ausjwane’, Emmanuel, Coreyetta, Jahmel, Amore’, James, Jr. and Jasmin; five sisters, Gertrude, Mary, Marcella, Vera and Beckey; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
