Evonne Washington

Evonne Washington the third of four children and only daughter born to Joe Washington, Jr. and Geneva Johnson Washington was born on September 6, 1945 in Provident Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland.Evonne graduated from Douglass High School in Baltimore, Maryland. As a life long learner, she relocated to Spring Valley, New York where she continued her studies at Ramapo Community College for nursing. Upon her return to Maryland, she began her employment with University Hospital Shock Trauma Unit. As Evonne's career advanced, she also worked for Chase Brexton Clinic as an Administrative Assistant, and The City of Baltimore Department of Public Works.Born and raised in a Christian, family Evonne Washington accepted Jesus as her Personal Savior at an early age was baptized and became a member of Friendship Baptist Church. In her adult life Evonne transferred her membership to The New Psalmist Baptist Church under the pastorage of Reverend Doctor Walter Scott Thomas. During her illness Sister Washington relocated to Englewood, New Jersey so her daughter Sonja could take care of her. In keeping with our Baptist Covenant, she submitted herself to the watch care of her. In keeping with our Baptist Covenant, she submitted herself to the watch care of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Reverend Vernon C. Walton the pastor.Evonne Washington, a godly woman who walked with God is no more. She vanished from this life on Saturday, July 16, 2005 at her daughter's home in Englewood, New Jersey. Now mommy walks with those who have vanished; her parents Geneva and Joe Washington, Jr.; maternal grandparents Reverend Mark L. Johnson and Carrie Smith Johnson; paternal grandparents, Joe Washington, Sr. and Rosey Clark Washington-Clay.Mommy leaves a legacy to her faithful and loving daughters: Sonja Conyers-McDaniel (Johnny) and Monica Gordon (David Dargan-fiancé). Evonne leaves The Word as a foundation of truth to her six adorable grandchildren: Amber Cook, Marcus McDaniel, Corey Agyei, Mark, Arielle and Mia Dargan. Brothers left to celebrate her life: Joseph ‘Peanut’ Washington, Thomas McKinley Washington, and Earl Quincy Washington. Others left to celebrate her life, will sing and rejoice about the goodness of the Lord and the love she always showed them are; paternal uncle, Eddie Clay Weldon, North Carolina; maternal aunts and uncles, Salma J. Wilson, Magnolia J. Biggs (Morsie); Carrietta J. Arrington, Pauline J. Vick, Mable J. White, and Ernest Johnson (Mary) Newport News, Virginia. A devoted cousin Jacqueline ‘Nookie’Harris who is like a daughter; two special friends Jeanette Valdez and Hattie Bennett to cherish her memory, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
