Evelyn Virginia Curtis

On Friday, January 25, 2002, Evelyn Virginia Williams Curtis departed this life and went home to the loving arms of our Lord. Born February 26, 1918 in Baltimore, Maryland, Evelyn was the fourth of eight children born to Benjamin and Alice Williams. She attended Baltimore City Public Schools. She was married to the late John Carroll Curtis who preceded her in death on December 28, 1987. Their home was a loving and favorite gathering place for all, for the love of family was extremely important to her. She was known by many titles: Mother, Ma, Grandmom, Nana, Eibee, Sister in Christ, confidant and many more affectionate names. Evelyn gave her life to the Lord at a very early age and became a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in 1968. After retiring from many years of in service, Evelyn gave herself fully as a faithful servant to the church. She worked tirelessly within the walls of the church and outside in the community. Evelyn was a member of the Inspirational Senior Choir, Social Action Group, Liturgy, Helping Hands, Bel Park Towers Seniors Group, assisted in the St. Ambrose Counters Collection Committee, and B.U.I.L.D. She was one of the organizers of the St. Ambrose Family out Reach Center establishing the Soup Kitchen with her loving hands and giving heart, she helped to cook and serve the much-needed meals. Sister Charmaine said, “Evelyn was a strong financial supporter and a good friend.” Evelyn also was a member of the St. Ambrose/St. Vincent DePaul Committee. She held the position of its Spiritual Advisor, a post that was usually held by a member of the clergy. She touched the lives of so many in a very caring and special way of all those she met along life'’ way. Both of her daughters in Christ, Geraldine Smith and Mae Williams said, "“Mrs. Curtis was like a Mother to me."” Evelyn lived her life to the fullest often said, “ If you don’t use your abilities that God gave you, you will lose them, and I am using all mine.” Her personality allowed her to interact with people on a very personal basis. A woman much loved, she was admired by all. She truly loved people and could not do enough for all. She related to people and was genuinely interested in the person. Evelyn leaves to mourn her loss: her loving son and daughter-in-law, Charles X and Marthann Davis; fond stepchildren, Pricilla Curtis James and Michael “Tab” Curtis; cherished grandchildren, Craig Davis, Dawn Davis, Frenchie Marcus, Natasha Davis, Charles “Mike” Davis and Montigue Davis; eleven loving great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Gloria Conaway, Eleanor Smith and Evelyn Holland; and many more caring nieces and nephews, her sisters in Christ, Doris Brown, Anita Cole and Bernice Ford; faithful relatives and friends.It seems so unreal that you are gone,When just yesterdayYou walked and talked and laughed with us,Then you quietly slipped away;Your gleaming face, your friendly smile, O how sweet the memory still;You parting left an aching void,This world can never fill;‘Til we meet again.Lovingly submitted,The Family
