Biographical Sketch/Obituary Mrs. Evelyn McWilliams Thomas “Come with me to a quiet place and rest”- St. Mark 6:31 Sunrise: December 21, 1946 Sunset: July 2, 2013 Evelyn McWilliams Thomas entered into a heavenly rest on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. She was born December 21, 1946 in Halifax County, North Carolina to the late O’Kelly and Pauline McWilliams. She was preceded in death by her sister, Paulette and brother, Melvin. She was a graduate of Maggie L Walker School. She continued her education at Virginia Union University receiving a Bachelors of Science in Education and a Masters in Child Guidance at Virginia Commonwealth University along with many other accomplishments. On October 13, 1979, she was united in holy matrimony to Earnest Thomas Sr., and shared thirty-three years of love and friendship. This union was blessed with one daughter, Fredrika and one son Earnest, Jr. Evelyn greatly admired her husband and was dedicated to her family. She was not only a mother and grandmother, but was also a wonderful friend. There was no subject too tough for her to tackle. Evelyn loved the Lord with all her heart and enjoyed being in worship services. She was a faithful member of St. James United Holy Church from an early age until her health began to fail. She acknowledged the call to ministry and rendered her initial sermon in 1994. Upon ordination she was an Associate Minister at St. James United Holy Church. She held many offices in the United Holy Church on the General and State level including President of the Central District Y.P.H.A for twelve years and Vice President for eight years. She was the Assistant Superintendent of the Bible Church School for four years. She established the Thomas E. Talley Scholarship Award under the umbrella of the Young Peoples Holy Association. She was the Vice President and Program Committee Member, Central Sub-District Ushers and Nurses Union (2008 – 2012). She was also a member of the Ministers Alliance. Those left to reflect upon the treasured memories of her precious life are her devoted husband, Earnest Thomas, Sr; one daughter, Fredricka; one son, Earnest, Jr.(Jana), three granddaughters, Kashara and Aquirra Lundy and Jameria Thomas; one grand-son, Earnest.III. one brother. O'Kelly Edward McWilliams, one sister. Sandra McWilliams Francis, ten sisters- in law, five brothers-in-law, three uncles, two aunts, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives or friends included four devoted friends, Hazel B. Alford, Mary Greene, Daisy Moseley and Debra Taylor
