Evelyn Louise Minor

Romans 14:7-8 Mrs. Evelyn Louise Marks Minor, age 83, of Richmond, Virginia ascended to heavenly rest on Monday, November 19, 2012 after a gallant and graceful last journey. Born February 7, 1929, she was the daughter of Jesse Marks and Maggie Jones Marks. She was the granddaughter of Lula Curley Marks Shands, Wager Marks, Mary Jones and Deacon Milton Jones, Sr. She was the great-granddaughter of Adolphus and Mattie Hill Curley. Evelyn was preceded in death by the love of her life, Thomas E. Minor, Most Worshipful Past Grand Master, Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Virginia; two sisters, Rose Barley and Veraline Green; two brothers, Jessie Marks and Paul Marks. Evelyn accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church shortly after her marriage to Thomas. She has been a faithful and devoted member of the church and an active contributor to the church mission. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, Mary C. Stewart Chapter 128. She leaves to cherish her memory eight children, Yvonne Minor of Richmond, VA, Jackie Minor of San Francisco, CA, Iverna Minor of Syracuse, NY, Sheila Spikes (Richard) of Colonial Heights, VA, Chella Minor of Richmond, VA, Jimmy King (Daphne) of Richmond, VA, Juanita Jackson of Richmond, VA and Carolyn Christian (Craig) of Charles City, VA; a beloved and dedicated sister, Lorraine Johnson of Richmond, VA; two adored brothers, James B. Marks (Naomi) of Rapid City, SD, and Eugene Marks (Linda) of Lanham, MD; three sisters-in-law, Della Marks, Rebecca Marks and Janie Minor; ten grandchildren, Nicole Young Collier (Brent) of Washington, DC, Robert Holmes of San Francisco, CA, Rose Minor, Stephanie Jackson, Tiffany Jackson, Alexia Jackson, Isaiah King, Kevonte Jackson, all of Richmond, VA, Cheyenne and Carmen Christian of Charles City, VA; four great-grandchildren, Montiece, Jeremiah, Timothy III, all of Richmond and Davis of Washington, DC; many nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends. Evelyn loved and adored her family. She valued each of them individually and created a circle of love, tolerance, and togetherness that extended to family, friends, and neighbors. Evelyn was lovely, creative, thoughtful, and persistent. She was graceful, in a godly way. She was strong, determined, resilient, and courageous. Her smile lit up every room she entered.
