Evelyn Jones Lewis

On July 4, 2019, Almighty God in his infinite wisdom, dispatched one of his choice angels to MCV Hospital in Richmond, Virginia to rescue from this earthly existence into eternal rest, our beloved daughter and sister, Evelyn Jones Lewis. Evelyn was born on October 26, 1959 to Jeanette T. Jones and the late Thomas L. Jones, in Bracey, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her nephew, Kam’Ren Holman. At an early age, Evelyn accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Venture Grove Baptist Church, Bracey, Virginia, where she was a faithful member and served as an Usher and Choir member. Evelyn was educated in Mecklenburg County Public Schools, and furthered her education at Southside Community College in Alberta, Virginia. Evelyn was united in holy matrimony to Joe Lewis, Jr. in 1989. She was employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, where she worked in various positions for over thirty years. Her last position was with the Virginia Employment Commission, where she worked as an Administrative Assistant to the Commissioner and retired from state service in 2017. Evelyn was an extraordinary, loving and giving person, always willing to assist others through the difficulties of life. Her straight- forwardness was her way of saying she loved you! She was very creative. In her spare time, she enjoyed growing plants, making flower arrangements and wreaths, and spending time with family and friends. Loving memories of Evelyn will be fondly cherished by her devoted mother, Jeanette T. Jones, South Hill, Virginia; brother, Dean T. Jones (Shelia) of South Hill, Virginia; two sisters, Jacquelyn D. Jones (Russell) of Richmond, Virginia and Jessica Jones Holman (Andrew) of South Hill, Virginia; niece, Jasmine Jones; three nephews, Jonathan Jones, Russell Smith, Jr. and Robbie Smith; four great-nieces, Laila Jones, McKenna Jones, Kylahni Holman and Ryleigh Holman; great-nephew, Zy’Quan Jones; aunt, Ruth J. Hatcher; two uncles, H.T. Alexander and James Edward Bennett; two godchildren, Courtney and Shannon Bullock; devoted friends, Octavia Abney, Valarie Braxton-Williams, Leslie Hartzog, Frankie C.
