Evelyn Martha Cox

Evelyn M. Cox was one of eleven children born to Isaiah and Anna Wilson in Odenton, MD. Her siblings Joseph, Calvin, Major, Mary, Pearl, Lillian, Clara, Ida and Hazel all preceeded her in death. She attended the Bowie Demonstration School in Bowie, MD, which is now Bowie State University. She was an excellent student and loved school. She attended Carver Vocational Night School and received a certificate in Home Nursing. Evelyn worked as a housekeeper for several families in Northwest Baltimore. They each loved her and treated her like family. She was a family-oriented person, and whatever she did she was always did it well. Evelyn moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she me husband Raleigh Cox. They got married and had four children, Barbara, Raleigh Jr., Lorraine and Kevin. Her home and family were very important to her. The family eating and talking together was a must, especially oatmeal for breakfast to start our day. Sunday was church day, and she liked to be on time. Watching the British shows on MPT was one of her favorite pastimes. Evelyn was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, but she later joined New Christian Memorial. While she was at Friendship Baptist Church she sang on the choir and assisted the Outreach Committee for the needy families in West Baltimore; she was also a member of the Flower Circle. Evelyn and her sister Hazel joined the Waxter Center Senior Choir, and the choir was invited to sing at the White House. After her kids were adults she loved to travel with the Golden Age Travel Club. She joined the Lunch Bunch, they wore their Lunch Bunch T-shirts and went on many day trips to different places of interest in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington. Preceding her in death are her husband Raleigh Cox Sr. and son Raleigh Cox, Jr. She leaves to mourn; her children daughters Barbara Cox, Loraine Boykin and son Kevin Cox; her daughter- in-law Ingrid; her son-in-law Marcel Boykin; sister Madeline Simmons-Williams; grandson Craig Jefferson and wife (Kim); two granddaughters Kaylin Cox and Dionne Cox; two sisters-in-law Margaree and Evelyn Cox; Two bothers-in-law Ranson Williams and Elwood Cox; two great-grandchildren Brittney Jefferson (Shawn Mason) and Craig Jefferson Jr; and a host of other relatives and friends.
