Evelyn Theresa Lee Cary

A Reflection of Life Evelyn Theresa Lee Cary Evelyn Theresa Lee Cary was born April 11, 1955 to the late Ethel W. Stallings and Moses Lee in Brooklyn, New York. At an early age, she moved to Valentines, VA where she attended Brunswick County Public Schools. She became a member of Gaston Baptist Church and also was an active member in the choir at Mason Grove Baptist Church. After graduating from Brunswick Senior High School in 1973, she attended Virginia Tech where she received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Home Economics. After moving to Richmond, VA., she became an Avon representative and soon became friends with Brenda Pierce, who introduced her to her future husband, William Cary. They quickly became friends, fell in love and then began life together as husband and wife. He affectionately described her as a peacemaker and talks fondly of the 32 years of marriage they enjoyed together. He wonders at how all the children in the family flocked to her whenever visiting. Indeed, she loved her family and especially the younger ones. Her children, nieces, and nephews enjoyed being in her presence and she always showed them how very special they were to her. To know her is to love her. Evan had two favorite loves. She loved to shop with family and friends and she always got up early on Saturday morning to frequent her favorite spots. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the game with her family. True to her alma mater, Virginia Tech, she remained a Hokie fan for life. She also loved the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs. She could call the plays and knew stats better than most. In fact, she often kicked into hyper mode whenever ESPN was on and even played it while she was sleeping. Evelyn began working at the Virginia Farm Bureau in 1979 and continued until the time of her home going. During her employment, she held various positions including Underwriter, Property and Casualty Specialist, Farm owner/Inland Marine Processing Manager, and Manager of Processing Department. She earned her CPCU designation, Associate in Underwriting, Associate and Management, Associate in Personal Insurance, and Certificate in General Insurance. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Warren and Wilton Gerald Lee and McKinley Reese. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband, William W. Cary, her beloved sons, William Lamont and Timothy Lee Cary, two stepdaughters, Gwendolyn and Gwendale Mayfield, a loving stepmother, Mary Lee the of Richmond, VA., two grandchildren,Jahvauda Cary and Ziare Harris, four sisters, Cynthia McKay(Dr. Ronald) of Teaneck, NJ., Irma Jean Bryant of Greensboro, NC., Deborah Jeffers (Lance) of Montgomery, AL.,and Vivian Shields(Craig) of Chester, VA.,. Also cherishing her memory of three brothers, William Stallings (Sharon) of Montgomery, AL., Roland Lee (Sandra) and John Lee (Anita) of Chesterfield, VA., three aunts, Gracie Eloise High and Gwendolyn Mason of Lawrenceville, VA. and Elder Dorothy Dixon (Bishop Leon) of Mt. Vernon, NY. one uncle Earl Walton( Ida Mae) of Lawrenceville, VA., and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
