Evelyn Bristow

.She will be truly missed by all whom lives she touched EMMA EVELYN BRISTOW, was born in Timmonsville, South Carolina on November 14, 1930. She was the daughter of the late John Nebraska Bristow and Emma Oralee Jackson. She peacefully departed this life on Thursday, November 11, 2010. Evelyn began her education in the Timmonsville Public School System. At the age of thirteen she moved with her family to Baltimore, Maryland. She graduated from Frederick Douglass High School. Evelyn also furthered her education at the Community College of Baltimore where she successfully obtained an Associates Degree in Arts. In 1977, Evelyn retired from the Social Security Administration where she was a Lead Claims Tech. For twenty-nine years. Throughout her service at the SSA, she received numerous Special Acts or Service Awards and Performance Awards. Evelyn also worked part-time at Sears, Hecht’s Korvette’s and at a Sewing Factory. Family played a great role in her life. She was a single mother and worked hard to provide a foundation for her children. She was dedicated every single day to her children, grandchildren and siblings. Evelyn always cooked a large dinner on the Holiday’s so that her family would come together. She was truly the shining light and backbone of her family. Evelyn lived a buoyant life. She enjoyed road trips with her family, volunteering with her grandchildren’s softball leagues, cooking and eating crabs. She also loved to garden in her personal garden in her back yard. Evelyn also was a member of a Pinochle Club called the Queens. She was not a religious person but very spiritual. Daily, she found joy in evening prayer with candlelight. Preceding her in death was, one brother, Owen A. Bristow; one sister, Gladys L. Bristow and one niece and two nephews. Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Samuel Stamper, Jr. and Jerry Stamper, Sr.; one daughter, Veronica Uzzell; two goddaughter, Maria Johnson and Verna Lee; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Emma Evelyn Bristow was beautiful, Independent, and Determined. . .
