Eva Mae Sharp

EVA MAE SHARP, daughter of the late Robert and Mattie Fairley was born January 7,1922 in Laurinburg, North Carolina. She was the sixth born of nine children. Eva grew up in a loving, God -fearing family. As a child, she was known to be the one to go to if you needed an ear or shoulder. She departed this life on Wednesday, May,2020 Eva received her education at The Laurinburg Institute Boarding School, majoring in music. She excelled so well she was offered and accepted an opportunity to sing a solo at the local radio station.She earned a reputation of being quite the songbird. Her children relished in visiting Laurinburg and having their hometown folks reminiscing and calling them the children of the lady who sings so well. Eva and her younger sister of nine months, Ann relocated to Baltimore, Maryland to afford themselves better opportunities in life. She was employed at Edgewood Arsenal and held other jobs until she met the love of her life,Thomas Nathan Sharp, a native of Baltimore, Maryland. They married and out of that union six children were born. Eva began to worship at Friendship Baptist Church where she was a member for approximately 30 years. She followed her pastor to New Mount Joy Missionary Baptist Church where she worshipped and sang on the choir until she could not physically attend. In 2008 NMJMBC recognized her as a chapter member and she was named Mother of the Church Eva will always be remembered for her kind heart and loving ways. She received visits from people in the neighborhood friends and family who knew that she was great listerner or could offer an ear if they needed advice. She was also known to give a helping hand to anyone in need, never turning anyone away. Eva was always wise and lived by quotes that can still be repeated. Two of them are; The bent tree is not always the one to fall' and her favorite .' I must go on. Eva's husband, Thomas , and two sons, Gregory and Emmanuel, preceded her in death.She leaves to mourn; three daughter; Sharon (John) Burton, Sandra Sharp and Dr. Sharonda (Robert) Manuel; one son; Aaron Sharp; seven grandchildren; Aaron (Kristi) White, Sharlandrea Sharp, Sheri(Randford) Anderson, Dr. Kenneth (Carol) Hartwill, Bryant Sharp, Christen Hicks and KJira Hicks; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; one brother; Hinton Fairly, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
