Eva Mae Sherman

EVE MAE SHERMAN, the daughter of the late William Beckwith and Pearl Baker, the sister of the late Beatrice Pankey and Leroy Beckwith, was born on March 11, 1924 in Durham, North Carolina. God called her home on the evening of January 27, 2010 after a lengthy illness.She received her education in Durham, N.C. And was married to the late Leroy Sherman on March 20, 1953 In Durham, N.C. A PVT of the United States Army. She later planted her roots and began a new life in Baltimore, Md. Along with her two daughters. She was baptized at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Wyman. She received a certificate in tailoring at Carver Vocational Technical High School.Eva Mae Sherman was a unique woman, full of knowledge, strength and put the “I” in independence. She would help anyone; you might have to hear a speech before she gave in, however she would help you. That was the method to her madness. She loved her casinos especially Atlantic City; she was “Lady Luck.” She loved to read her newspapers so much that after she had read them she would pass them down for someone else to read them. Baseball was her greatest love; The Baltimore Orioles had an unconditional fan in her. She loved her garden, she could grow anything. She was a woman of many sayings that made a lot of sense, such as; You can do bad by yourself, you don't need no help, It is a poor rat that has only one hole to crawl in, Bo-weaver is always looking for a home and her favorite was “I pay the cost to be boss.” She was the life of any party and once you met her, you could never forget her. These were all words of wisdom when you think about them. My grandmother was truly a unique woman, a force to be reckoned with. A woman of great strength, wisdom and independence up to very day she gave up her fight. She will truly, truly be missed but never ever forgotten.She was blessed with two daughters; Jeanette McFarlane and Johnnie Mae McLaughlin, who gave her ten grandchildren; Michele (the late Marcella and Lowell), Michael, Linda, Larry, Darryl, Clayton, Donnette and Myron who gave her twenty-four great-grandchildren who gave her twenty-four great-great-grandchildren. She had two sons-in-law, Martin and Lawrence; sister-in-law, Marion Beckwith; and some life-long faithful friends, Maggie-Mae, Ann and Mary. She also had a host of nieces, cousins and many more friends who loved her.
