Eugene Samuels Sr.

Our beloved husband,father,stepfather,son,brother,uncle,grandfather,cousin,Eugene Samuels,Sr. 66,entered eternal rest on November 20,2016. Eugene was born on March 13, 1950 in Calhoun, South Carolina to Marie Boderick Samuels Shivers and the late John Samuels, Sr. Eugene moved to Richmond, Virginia at an early age and attended Richmond Public Schools. As a young man, Eugene became very interested in security work and attended Virginia Commonwealth University for training in the field of security. His career in security afforded him an opportunity to provide security at several area nightclubs, Koslow’s Supermarker, Lucky’s Convenience Stores and Cavalier’s Men Shop. He was also employed as manager of Capital Neighborhood Theater and as an investigator for Rod Sager, Attorney at Law. Anyone who knew Eugene knew that he was an excellent “Jack of All Trades.” If there was a repair that was needed to a wall, a floor, a window, a door, plumbing, heating or electrical, Eugene was the man to get the job done. According to Eugene, the best football team in the NFL is the raging, charging, winning, Super Bowl bound, Washington Redskins! He loved the team so much that prior to the big reveal-grand opening celebration of his “man cave,” Frances decorated his newly built “man cave,” with LOTS of Redskins memorabilia. Eugene had a great love for family, for people, and never met a stranger. He had a strong will and spirit, and confessed early in life Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior. He grew up in Fourth Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Dr. Robert L. Taylor and became a member of Grayland Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Dr. Clifton Whitaker, Jr. where Eugene served until his untimely death. Eugene was preceded in death by his father, John Samuels Sr.; five brothers, John, Lucious, Booker T., Leroy and Allen Samuels; and sister, Clara Hines. He leaves to cherish a memory a loving and devoted wife of 19 years, and soul mate of 35 years, Frances Evans-Samuels; two sons, Eugene Samuels Jr. and Spencer Maurice Evans; two daughters, Chandra Samuels and Ashley White; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; mother, Marie Boderick Samuels Shivers; sister, Delcenia Samuels; one aunt, Idelle Blocker (Jerry); three uncles, Ezekel, William (Evelyn) and David (Marie) Boderick; devoted cousin, Gracie May; devoted nephew, John Samuels lll; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends.
