Ethel Murphy

On May 27, 2004, a sweet rose was plucked from the garden of life, at the height of its bloom to spend eternity in Heaven. Ethel T. Murphy was born on June 18, 1925 to the late Hughe Craddock and Helen Bulger in Barbour County, Alabama.Her formal education was received in Barbour County, Alabama. She was later employed as a private housekeeper. Her employers frequently commended her on her exemplary work ethics.Ethel was united in Holy Matrimony on January 2, 1944, to the late James L. Murphy. To this union three children were born. One son, James Earl Murphy Jr. preceded her in death.She confessed Christ at an early age at Union Grove Baptist, Barbour County, Alabama. She was a faithful member until she moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1955. Ethel later joined the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in 1958, under the pastorate of the late Dr. Samuel B. Redd. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and senior Missionary Society. She gave unselfishly of her service. This dedication continued under the current pastor Dr. Charles E. Coger. She loved her church family and was a dedicated member, supportive of all auxiliaries and activities of the church. Frequently she utilized her telephone list, calling the sick and shut in members of her church family; always willing to say a word of encouragement and send a card of cheer.She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. One of her greatest joys was her family. She enjoyed preparing Sunday dinner with her signature macaroni and cheese. Pineapple cake and sweet iced tea. She was a lovable sweet person with a quiet spirit who lived a good Christian life. She made numerous friends wherever she went and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew her.She leaves to cherish her memroy: two loving daughters, Annie H. Murphy and Maudrie L. Pryor; one sister, Alberta Chitty of Abbeville, Alabama; five grandchildren, Geneen Pryor-Elder, LaTonya Roberts, Kimberly Frazier, Courtney Higgins and James E. Murphy III; twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
