Ethel Carroll

ETHEL COVELL CARROLL, daughter of the late Annie and Lanford Covell, was born August 23, 1904. She was called to eternal rest on Friday, March 17, 2006. Ethel met and married the late Elmer Carroll in 1923. Out of this union were two children, Anna Carroll Johnson and the late Herbert Carroll. Ethel held various jobs working in packing houses, the school system and some domestic work also. She retired from St. Patrick's Church where she cooked for the priest and nuns of the church. Ethel had a strong love of the Lord and it showed in her everyday life. The first Church she attended was Centennial Methodist Church. She later joined the Old Asbury Methodist Church which became East Hoffman Street Church. The East Hoffman Street Church later became what is now Christ United Methodist Church where Clarence Davis serves as Pastor. Ethel was active in her church until her health no longer permitted. She served on various ministries in the church, one being the Golden Leaf Circle, and she helped set-up the altar. Pastor Clarence Davis often came by to give Ethel communion and visit. The church would see that she received The Upper Room and Our Daily Bread, which she read faithfully each day. Ethel truly loved her family. In the early years there was not one of the many babies in the family that didn't get the special attention with her "famous song." It had no rhythm or rhyme. Just "de da de da dedadee." Just a little song she'd sing while she rocked. She always inquired "How's the family?" wanting to know about everybody. There was nothing Ethel would not do for anyone. She was always, asking "Do you need anything?" Ethel was a member of the Purity/Sweet Beulahland Chapter #7/29 of Benevolent Protective Order of Reindeer, Inc and Zoriah Elliott Temple #717. Those left to cherish the life of Ethel are: her devoted daughter, Anna Johnson; two grandsons, Ronald (Cassandra) Carroll, Charles (Vernetta) Graves; two granddaughters, Sandra Logan and Elnora (Cyril) Galbreath; four great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters, seven great-great-grandchildren, two great-nephews, three great-nieces, fourteen great-great-nephews and nieces, sixteen great-great-great-nephews and -nieces; a devoted caregiver, Blanche Carter; and a special friend, Mae Etta Smith; and a host of cousins and friends.
