Ethel Baltimore

On May 15, 2023, the Heavenly Gates opened to welcome Ethel Mae Noakes Baltimore. Born on June 16, 1929, in Fauquier County, Virginia to the late Maria Ann Baltimore Cook and Daniel Lane, Ethel joined a family of six siblings, all of which are now deceased: Pearl, Bessie, Irene, Louise, Mary, and Robert. They grew up on a farm in Markham, VA, and soon moved to Orlean, VA. The family-owned and worked a parcel of land in Crest Hill, VA. Ethel grew up under the sage guidance of her mother and grandmother. One important thing she learned from them is that the Lord will make a way. When Ethel was two years old, she was stricken with spinal meningitis. No one thought she would walk again. But the Lord answered the prayers of her mother and grandmother and began to walk again. She learned firsthand the healing powers of the Lord, and let Him guide her from childhood throughout adulthood. As a young lady, Ethel moved to Tinner's Hill in Falls Church, VA to work. There, she met a dashing young man named William Noakes, with whom she fell in love and soon married. Three children were born from this union, William Nelson Noakes, Betty Ann Noakes, and Gloria Cecelia Noakes. Ethel continued her educational pursuits and successfully completed her GED. She began to advance in management fields and soon became a branch manager of a well-known bank. Ethel remembered the lessons from her mother and grandmother and joined the First Baptist Church of Merrifield, and later Christian Assembly in Vienna, VA. She received many certificates of appreciation and commendations from her church. The highlight of her life was a trip to the Holy City of Jerusalem, Israel, the epicenter of the religious world with her youngest daughter, Gloria. There, they rode camels, were baptized in the Jordan River, and walked where Jesus walked as they experienced the history of the Christian world. Ethel always had her family at the forefront of her mind and taught them to love Jesus. She did not have an easy life, but she lived it with courage, humbleness, and generosity. Even in her declining years, she sought the welfare of others. Ethel was preceded in death by her son, William Nelson Noakes (Marilu), and daughter, Gloria Cecelia Dutch (Delbert). She is survived by William's children Shawn William Jr. (BJ), Michelle, and seven (7) grandchildren and four (4) great-grandchildren; and Gloria's children Candice, Kathryn, and Cara, and eleven (11) grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Ann Massenbur;g (Roy), grandson Tracy, and two great-granddaughters. Her precious memories will be cherished by numerous loving relatives and friends.
