Esther Y. Davis

Esther Yvonne Davis was born, June 15, 1955 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Jake Robert and Harriet Johnson Butler. She was the fifth child of this union, following Samuel Maurice, Nathan Moran, Jacob Robert (Deceased), and Jacqueline Elese. Her mother shared the story of Esther's birth saying " Esther was named before she was conceived , and she would be a leader of people." As the last child , Esther was always taken care of but wanted independence. Esther was a carefree child and always sang songs to herself and played contentedly by herself. There was always a stuffed animal under her arm and she sucked her thumb so long that she had to have braces when her front teeth finally came in. She loved people but never needed an audience to be happy. She enjoyed her own songs and whatever she was doing. She was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Northwestern High School in June 1973. In elementary school, she came home with stories of what she was learning and sang whatever song she had learned. Esther was a "telephone child" and dialed her friends everyday and chatted about homework and whatever was going on in school and what was happening at church. Esther enjoyed Sunday School her whole life. In fact her first class, Esther replayed every lesson when she got home from Sister Hattie King's class that afternoon and throughout the week. She participated in the Young Peoples; Union with poems or solos. One of the songs she sang, pointing her finger to the audience was " You Ought to Tell It Like It Is" and "Happy With Jesus Alone." Whenever she had come through a test and saw God hand, she would bounce down the church aisle singing, "You Don't Know Like I Know What He's Done For Me"! Esther followed her parents into ministry and continued her religious studies at Baltimore Bible and Family Bible College in Baltimore, Maryland. She enjoyed serving in various church ministries including: choir, puppetry, women's retreats, Sunday school, and outside evangelism. She acquired additional education studying business administration, human services, and later receiving certification with the Department Of Justice, as an Offender's Workforce Development Specialist. She enjoyed working at the United States District Court and later developed a desire to assist students with disabilities. On June 20, 1987. Baltimore, Maryland Esther married Glenn Edward Davis, Sr., and from that union, one son was born, Glenn Edward Davis, Jr. Esther worked diligently to maintain the Davis family circle. Esther suffered form many illnesses that affected her employment; as a result, she established Wellness Employee Service Transfer, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization to help others similarly impacted. Her mission was help individuals' employment regardless of health challenges. Esther leaves cherish her memory, her son, Glenn, Jr., Glenn, Sr.; brothers, Samuel, and Nathan (Sherry); sister, Jackie Edwards (James). Nieces and nephews; Karla Wilder (Brian), Corina , Casey, Nathan Jr. (Tuere), Tia, Jake II, Kamey, J'Nay Mantecon (Phillip, Sr.) Also holding onto her memory are; sisters-in-law, Pinkie Butler, Cordelia Freeland, Debbie Butler; three great -nephews; Brian and Omari Wilder, and Phillip Mantecon IV; and a host of other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
