Estella Young

ESTELLA YOUNG, daughter of the late Richard and Lula Mae Evans was born in Brook County – Quitman, Georgia on October 19, 1936. She departed this life, Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Sinai Hospital after a long illness.Estella Young completed her education in Brook County – Quitman, Georgia along with her sweetheart, Alex Young. After Alex Young completed his basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Estella Evans and Alex Young were joined together in holy matrimony - in the sight of God – forty-eight years ago.After arriving in Baltimore, Maryland, Estella Young worked as a day care provider in her home. She also trained as a nurse at Sinai Hospital located on Broadway. She then worked at Central Nursing Home for three years.Estella Young loved her family and the word of God. She enjoyed witnessing to every one including men, women, children, strangers, salespeople, nurses, doctors and anyone she had an opportunity to address. Moreover, Estella loved to travel with her husband, Dr. Alex Young Sr.Loving the word, as she did, Estella Young joined the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Ike Williams. With such a friendly nature, she immediately joined the Usher Board and the Gospel Chorus. Later, Estella Young joined the Mt. Calvary Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Nobel H. Toyer. Estella worked on the following auxiliaries: the Usher Board, Willing Workers, Missionaries, Deaconess Board, Gospel Chorus, Combined Choirs, and the Sunday School. In addition, Estella cared for her community and worked tirelessly in the Meal Kitchen where she prepared boxes for the hungry and the homeless as she witnessed to everyone about the love of God. Estella Young was also a member of The Women’s Auxiliary of the Mt. Bethel Association, The Minister’s Wives and Widows of Baltimore & Vicinity and The Women’s Auxiliary of the United Missionary Baptist Convention.Feeling a stronger need to bond with her Lord and Savior, Estella Young heeded God’s call to the ministry and completed her initial sermon at Mt. Calvary Star Baptist Church where she continued to call the unsaved to serve God. Minister Estella Young, throughout her illness, continued to come to every service faithfully and never complained. She called on the Lord and witnessed for Him whenever she had the opportunity. Nothing came between her services for the Lord. Minister Estella Young truly loved her God and served Him graciously. She kept her faith and never wavered.Estella loved her husband very much - her church and her family, especially her grandchildren.On Tuesday, January 3, 2006, God carried His faithful servant home to glory to be with Him forever in eternity. Minister Estella Young leaves to mourn her departure: loving husband, Rev. Dr. Alex Young Sr., five children: Charles Young, Debra Boykins, Minister Janice McRae, Stephannie Faison and Rev. Alex Young Jr.; eleven grandchildren: Chanelle McRae, Janella McRae, Reginald Faison, Patrice Faison, Everett White, Bernadette McRae, Tunisia Boykins, Claudia Young, Chloe Young, Charles E. Young II and Alex Isaiah Young; one great-grandchild: Nicholas McRae; three sons-in-law: Earl Boykins, Bernard McRae and Reginald Faison; two daughters-in-law: Jenette Young and Belinda Young; four sisters: Ruth Maginley (preceding her in death), Geneva Sutton of New York, Bessie Covington of Atlanta and Bernice Norris of West Palm Beach, Florida; two brothers: Richard Evans Jr. (deceased), Wallace Evans of New York; three sisters-in-law: Pauline English (deceased), Earline Sheppard of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Alise Young of West Palm Beach, Florida; three brothers-in-law: Ernest Carnegie (deceased), Bobby Young of West Palm Beach, Florida and James Sutton of New York; two living aunts: Gussie Bennett of Allentown, Pennsylvania and Johnnie Myers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
