Essie Ashlock

ESSIE MAE HARRIS MITCHELL ASHLOCK entered into eternity on October 17th at 3:04 am. She was born to the late James and Bessie Fitts in Littleton, North Carolina. At an early age they moved to Baltimore where she went to Baltimore Public Schools. In 1942 Essie married Harold Mitchell and out of that union she had a wonderful and a loving son, Harold Rayner. The union ended early so she moved to New York to live with family members. During her stay in New York she met the love of her life Leon F. Ashlock, as he played ball with one of her cousins. They later got married and after a few years had their first child Lewis F. Ashlock. Lewis who died at a very early age. One year five months and nineteen days later they had their daughter, Lois then eight years later another son Lamont. In 1957 Leon and Essie decided to move back to Baltimore. Her daughter was almost the age of the son she lost, and Essie needed the support of her immediate family. Once back in Baltimore she gave her life to Christ and later went on to join Zion Baptist Church. Essie b.k.a. Lucy was a VERY hard working woman. She started cleaning houses then went on to work at Bugle Laundry until she was hired to continue her dream as a tailor. She continued her dream until Leon became an entrepreneur at Golden Gate Grocery. They later went on to realize this came without benefits, so she went yo work in Baltimore Public School system until she retired. Essie preceded in death by her sister Betty Lou Cotton, her grandsons Rayner Keith Mitchell and Charles Banks and her granddaughter Latoya A. Ashlock. She leaves to cherish her memory (2) sons; Harold R. Mitchell (Iris), Lamont D. Ashlock (special friend Laquetta), (1) daughter; Lois R. Jacobs (Kenneth), a dedicated brother-in-law; Charles R. Cotton., (4) grands; Kevin, Sheldon, Rodney, Lamont II, (6) great grands: Crystal, Shakia, Antonio, Devaughn, Devron, Aiden, (3) great great grands, (1) niece, and a host of cousins and friends.
