Ernestine Green

Ernestine Wilson Green, daughter of Oliver and Nancy Davis Wilson was born on Mary 20, 1919 in Honey Hill, South Carolina. Ernestine, affectionately known as "Muncie", was reared in a Christian home. At an early age she received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior while attending the Wesley A.M.E. Church in Shulerville, South Carolina. Ernestine was educated in South Carolina's Berkley County Public School System. She moved to Baltimore, Md., in the early 1930's where she became a member of the Faith Baptist Church under the Pastorate of Reverend Simon L. Williams. On July 7, 1934, Ernestine joined in holy matrimony to the "love of her life" William Green, also so known as "Willie" and from this union they were blessed with two children, son William (Butch) and daughter Vera (Poodle). It was important to William and Ernestine that their children be raised in the fear and ammunition of God and in 1965 they moved the family's church membership to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church under the Reverend Isaac L. Williams and they remained faithful members under the Pastoral Leadership of Bishop Clifford M. Johnson. Ernestine entered Cosmetology School in Baltimore, Md., where she received formal training and became a Licensed Cosmologist and an entrepreneur, rending her services to the community for over 65years. She excelled professionally in her trade and was well known for her ability to "press and curl" the lady's hair, knowing that when they left "Ernestine's Beauty Salon" that they would be looking their very best. Her clientele consisted of family, church and community members. Ernestine's favorite pastimes included eating crabs and she loved sitting on the front where she had many a conversation with her neighbors. The most endearing pastime of all was the special place she held in her heart for her legacy, her "grand and great-grandchildren"; for her last words to her daughter Poodle were to "go home and take care of her grand (Mario, Yates, Priscilla, Kenneth, Tierra, Cierra) and especially her great-grand (Jaylen, Mario, Precious, Dominique and Zoey) children". Ernestine is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Agnes Margaret and Mamie, Lula and Eloise; her brothers Ausy, Alvin, Rufus and Henry. After 67 years of marriage God called William from labor to reward on March 3, 2005. Ernestine continued to trust the Lord while serving faithfully in the Whosoever Will Club. and On Tuesday, August 12, 2008, God called Ernestine home to join Him and her "beloved". Ernestine leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted children William A. Green and Vera Wilson; a daughter-in-law Julie Green, six grand-children Mario, Robert "Yates", Priscilla, Kenneth, Tierra, Cierra; five great grand-children Jaylen, Mario, Precious, Dominique and Zoey; two god-daughters Leila and Lorraine; one god-son Jerome P.; special cousins Mazie, Leviticus and Mires 'Toby'; a host of devoted nieces, nephews and other relatives; special friends Nancy, Estella, Michelle, Ida, Shirley, Annie B., Joe and Jerome G. along with a multitude of others.
