Ernest Nicks

EARNEST I. NICKS, son of Mary Wright and the late Willie Nix, was born on October 1, 1935 in Hampton County, South Carolina. He departed this life on Wednesday, May 24, 2006. Ike (as we all knew him) completed his education in the Barnsville County, South Carolina school system. Joining the United States Army in 1955, he served a total of six years of active and inactive duties and was granted an honorable discharge for his Army and Reserve services. Ike went on to obtain employment, filling various positions and mastering many trades. He took pride in even the smallest of his accomplishments. His final place of employment was the Johns Hopkins University, where he held two positions and served over twenty-five years before his retirement from the Homewood post office on September 30, 1997. Ike married Carolyn Boone on December 14, 1957 and out of this union raised six wonderful children: Clifton Boone, the late Earnest A. Nicks, Jacqueline Barnett, Carl Nicks aka David, Keith Nicks and Robin Webb. He was a loving and loyal father who shared his life and time with his children unselfishly. He made many friends over the years that he also shared his time and talents with. There was never a job he could not get done, or as he would say, a run that he couldn't make. His faith kept him grounded and in touch with the realities of the world even when he sometimes did not understand them. All who knew and loved him will sincerely miss him. Along with his wife and children he leaves to mourn one other daughter, Dana Rogers and other close extended family. Also left to mourn are: his mother, Mary Wright; stepfather, Lee Wright; aunt, Edith Gibson, of Hampton, South Carolina; and his late stepmother, Bennie Lee Nix of Greenville, South Carolina; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Edith Macrall of Baltimore (husband Wardell deceased), Genise Williams of Greenville, SC (husband Jackie), Teresa Sanders of Greenville, SC, and Delores Jackson of Ft.Wayne, IN; six brothers, and five sisters-in-law, Willie Nix of Baltimore (wife, Virginia), Robert Wright of Baltimore (wife Jeanette), Lucius Wright of Jackson, MS (wife Joyce deceased), Emanuel Nix (wife Valerie), Barry Nix (wife Gail) and John Nix (wife Margaret) of Greenville, SC; three sons-in-law, Barry Barnett, Larry Webb and Ed Rogers; four daughters-in-law, Emma Boone, Helen Nicks, Paula Nicks and Natalie Nicks of Baltimore; one god-daughter, Sade Davis of Georgia (aka Patsy); twenty-four grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and several cousins.
