Eric Redwine

Eric Russell Redwine was born on March 1, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland. This beautiful baby boy with rosy cheeks and hazel eyes was the last child of his parents, Ruth (Brown) Redwine, and Howard Candler Redwine. Eric was the youngest of his siblings Howard, Amary (Peaches), and Paul. He departed this life and gained his heavenly wings on June 12, 2024, after a lengthy illness. A historian and scholar, Eric was educated in the Baltimore City Public School Systems. An excellent student, he was a proud graduate of Baltimore City College and Coppin State University receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Upon graduation, he was recognized in Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges for his outstanding academic achievements. Eric later put his experience and education to good use when he taught students at Garrison Junior High School. Mr. Redwine also served in the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant and the United States Air Force Reserves. He often talked about his military service and how he was so grateful that he had not been drafted during the Vietnam War. Eric was stationed in a number of domestic and international locations including Germany, Maryland, Delaware, Oklahoma and Hawaii. He dreamed of one day returning to the “Big Island.” Eric was passionate about world events, politics and geography. He worked in Annapolis for Delegate Frank Boston and loved being in the midst of our State government. Eric never missed an opportunity to engage in spirited discussions about Federal, State and local leaders. His television was frequently tuned on CNN, MSNBC and Bil Maher on HBO. Years ago, long before streaming and Netflix, he recorded and labeled every single episode of the NBC political drama “The West Wing.” On steamy Baltimore nights or long winter days, you would often hear the music of Pat Metheny, Dave Cos and other jazz artists coming from Eric’s basement man cave. WE didn’t have Pandora, Spotify or Tidal. WE had Eric who made the best of smooth jazz CD’s for the entire family. In the early eighties, his mother, Ruth, suffered a stroke and other medical challenges. However, she never considered herself to be disabled. Soon after his mother retired from the Baltimore City School system, Eric left his military career and dedicated most of his adult life to his mother, ensuring that she always received unconditional love and quality care. Eric, we will never forget your hearty laughter, kind disposition, juicy fried chicken, hot buttered noodles and hand-crafted frozen cocktails. Tell your Mom and Dad, Granddaddy and Grandmother, Aunt Iris, Howard, James, Randy and Jay that we love them and miss them every day. Our chain is broken for now, but we know we will see you all again. Rest well Eric, our brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, godfather, neighbor and friend.., FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS…..
