Forever in Our Hearts: Remembering Eric Fitzgerald, Sr. (aka – “Bucky”). For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16. ERIC FITZGERALD, SR., affectionately known as “Bucky,” was born on January 19, 1960, to the late Ruby May Harper Fitzgerald and William Henry Fitzgerald; both of whom preceded Eric in death. On June 27, 2025, Eric peacefully transitioned home to be with the Lord. Bucky had a smile that could light up an entire room; it wasn’t just his smile, it was his spirit. He had a way of making everyone feel valued. His laugh was contagious, his energy magnetic, and his heart full of love. He was a man who loved deeply, lived fully, and gave freely. Bucky attended Baltimore City Public Schools but later earned his GED, always believing that determination was greater than any obstacle. In 1984, lucky found his calling on the open road and began a lifelong career in truck driving. He wasn’t just moving cargo; he was living his dream. From hauling goods to delivering cars, Bucky took great pride in every route and every mile. Driving wasn’t just work for him; it was peace, freedom, and purpose. His final journey behind the wheel was with J.B. Hunt, a company he deeply respected and where he continued doing what he loved most. In 1989, Bucky married the love of his life, Wendy Fitzgerald. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and legacy. He was a devoted husband, and he was a proud father to their two children, Erika Jamison and Eric Fitzgerald Jr. Bucky poured of the way. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family. Bucky beamed with pride over his four grandchildren, Akaylyn Fitzgerald, Shawn Scott, Kevin Janey Jr., and Brandon Jamison Jr. He loved to spoil, tease, and make each one laugh. Their presence brought him joy beyond measure. Family was everything to Bucky. Whether it was a cookout, a quick phone call, or just sitting around talking about life, he was at his happiest when surrounded by the people he loved. He was the kind of man who checked on you simply just because. He hugged you tight, and he always left you feeling better than you were before you interacted with him. Bucky was saved at Community Church of Christ. He later continued his walk of faith at Greater Grace World Outreach. His relationship with God was personal, and his faith carried him through both joy and hardship. He is survived by his children, Erika and Eric; his grandchildren, and his siblings, Shirley T. Wilson, Bill Jr. Harper and his wife Angie, Angelo Fitzgerald, Bryant Fitzgerald, Gail Fitzgerald Hill and her husband Kevin, Pamela Fitzgerald Speights and her husband Michael, and Mark Fitzgerald and his wife, Ursula. He also leaves behind three aunts, Olivia Waters, Reverend Addie Holloway, and Laura Anderson (Ray); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, lifelong friends, and loved ones who were touched by his kindness, humor, and loyalty. Bucky was more than a great man; he was a light in this world. His legacy isn't just in the road he traveled but in the hearts of every person he met along the way. He will never be forgotten; he will always be loved and sorely missed. Until we meet again, our beloved "Bucky" rest easy.
