Emma Lou Mason

The morning of Sunday,December 12,2010 the Lord called our beloved mother,grandmother,great grandmother,great- great grandmother,aunt,cousin and friend,Mrs. Emma Lou Mason,home to glory at the age of 93. With her son,James Brydsong,Jr. and daughter-in-law,Antoinette Byrdsong by her side,she peacefully passed away in Sandston,VA. Mrs. Emma Lou Mason was born September 10,1917 in Brunswick County,VA. to the late Charlie D. Mason and Mary Lewis Mason. She later moved to Emporia,VA. where she spent most of her life. Mrs. Mason had one older sister,Mrs. Novella Mason of Newport News,VA(preceded in death). She was united in marriage by three husbands. From the first union to Ernest Mason(preceded in death),were born Charlie Mason(preceded in death),Mary Mason(preceded in death),Ernest Mason,Sr.(preceded in death),Donald Earl Mason of New York,NY,and Jacqueline Burch(preceded in death),. From the second union to James Byrdsong(preceded in death),were born Thomas Byrdsong(Adria Byrdsong) of Washington,DC,Otelia Bryant of Brooklyn,NY,Ethel Jones(Waverly Jones) of York,PA. and James Byrdsong,Jr.(Antoinette Byrdsong) of Richmond,VA. From the third union to Thomas Mason,no children were born. She wored many years as a dedicated cook until she retired. Mrs. Mason acepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age. She was a member of Royal Baptist Church in Emporia,VA. for many years. Later,she joined Saint Paul's Baptist Church in Richmond,VA. Mrs. Mason loved the Lord with all her heart. Even on her death bed,she continuously praised the Lord! She had a kind,loving,caring,compassionate and giving spirit. Mrs. Mason believed in working hard to accomplish what needed to be done. She enjoyed spending time with her children,family and friends,gardening,canning,cooking,working,talking about the Lord and sharing about life. Her life was truly a testament of love and reverence for the Lord. She leaves such a great legacy and example of great zeal for life,family,purpose and love. In addition to her surviving children,Mrs. Mason also leaves to cherish her memories 34 grandchildren,44 great-grandchildren,great-great grandchildren,nieces,nephews,couisins and friends. Mrs. Emma Lou Mason deeply touched the lives of so many who knew her.
