Elva Ann Nelson

Elva Ann Nelson,64 was the first of four children born to the late James and Annie Nelson. She came into this life on May 12,1948 and entered her eternal residency,suddenly,on October 23,2012. She attended Richmond Public Schools graduating from Maggie L. Walker High School. She continued her education at North Carolina Central University and Virginia Commonwealth University,where she received her Master of Science Degree in Clinical Social Work. Elva loved her work as a counselor,but was overwhelmed by her responsibilities,because she cared so deeply about her client's challenges. Later,she became an Eligibility Analyst for the Disability Determination Services for the State of Virginia. She made serious attempts to approve all her cases,within the confines of the law. Again,she cared very deeply for her client's welfare. She accepted Christ at a young age and has been an active member of Sixth Baptist Church for over fifty years. She served in several capacities,most notably as Past-President of The Sisterhood Ministry and as a soprano in the E.L. Fleming Gospel Choir. Elva's life was one of excitement,elegance and excellence. She enjoyed an active life of bowling,tennis,skiing,dining,shopping and traveling. She was politically and community conscientious,and strongly convicted in her opinions and she didn't mind sharing them. Don't ask her for an opinion unless you could handle the truth. She was a kind,compassionate and devoted friend to many and was never too busy to listen and assist wherever she could. She loved her family deeply and will be greatly missed by them. Remaining to cherish her memory is her sister,Josephine N. Fleming;brothers, James O. Nelson and Clyde O. Nelson;sister-in-law,Rosalind W. Nelson;dearly beloved niece Carmen Fleming;nephews,Darryl G. Fleming and Aaron J. Nelson,Sr.;great-nephews,Zaire Massey,Eon Fleming,Aaron J. Nelson,Jr.,aunt Mary McKenzie;god-daughters,Felicia Smith,Robin Marshall and Joi Roberts;a host of loving relatives and friends and her beloved dog,Kenney. Elva left us too soon,but we understand and know that God wanted her to be with Him;to be happy and free. We will always love her.
